Question:
I'm on BT Option 1 which by direct debit is £8.93 per month.
My flatmate uses the phone for about 5 hours a week max in the evenings for local calls, i barely use it, only ever for doctors or quick local calls that last about 2 minutes as I use my free mobile minutes.
The phone line is basically for the internet
Am I on best tariff? I can't join this 18866 thing as i only have Electron card.
Thanks!

I don't understand how your monthly DD could be as low as £8.93 (for just the line rental, BT charge £10.50 per month). Are you saying the £8.93 is call costs - i.e. IN ADDITION TO your line rental cost?
Edit 10:40 5/4/05
The above paragraph greyed out because it is irrelevant now (thanks to Andy's post below).
Nevertheless, on BT Option 1 those evening calls (it doesn't matter whether they're local or not as long as they're to UK 01 or 02 numbers) are costing 5.5p each as long as they are less than an hour. Weekend calls would cost the same.
Daytime 01/02 calls are costing you 3p per minute (5p minimum charge).
You could save money by changing to OneTel's LeisureUKTalk CarrierPreSelect this month and get free evening and weekend calls for a year. Thereafter, you could change (you'd have to remember, they won't remind you) to their StandardUKTalk package and keep free weekend calls.
Answers:
£8.93 + vat = £10.50

Thanks April and Andy. Sorry, did not include VAT.
I will look into that 1 month thing from OneTel. I am/was concerned i was paying for something I did not need and hoped for cheaper somewhere.
I'll look into it and see what they say
