Forward scheduling MRP - Include Procurement Lead Time
I am trying to forward schedule assembly orders with MRP.
When a procurement order is going to arrive after the start of the production we get a warning message that the procurement order will be too late.
Instead of generating a warning, is there any way to delay the start of the planned production order to match the arrival of the purchased parts.
Thanks
Whether or not you can technically do that I'm not sure, although I don't think it's possible in standard SAP. But if you think about good manufacturing/planning practices, you don't want to do that. The start date of the planned order is timed so that the order will finish in time to meet some demand (forecast requirements, sales order, etc.). If you have made committments based on the original dates, and then you change those dates, you may be violating those committments. Rather than postponing the start of the planned order, you should be expediting the arrival of the purchased good. Unless there is some overriding business requirement, I would focus on 1) setting up your lead times properly so that you order your purchased parts in a timely fashion and 2) establishing procedures on what to do when the vendor can't meet the standard lead time (expediting, changing schedule, etc.).
I had put a query to SAP on the same issue sometime last year. They had replied that its not possible.
Also, I do agree with apm1964 on the Good Manufacturing Practices aspect.
Hi,
In MRP, you expect to do backward scheduling. To make sure that the production order start date is only after the longest material lead time, you normally put in a value in the replenishment lead time. Then the system does not plan only with respect to your manufacturing lead time but also takes into consideration the lead time of the component.
The issue is to identify which component is the one with the longest lead time and the correct lead time to use for planning.
hope this helps
