Committment date in production order can't be proposed

Question:
Dear all,
Why the commitment date in production order can not be calculated accordng to planned delivery date and GR processing time automatically after the material availability check??
Regards,
Anthony
Answer:
Am jumping on this bandwagon:
This is the same in the Planned Order - my BOM component requisition says it is available from, e.g., 9th Nov, giving a Commitment date of 10th Nov. But, When i schedule the order (set to backward scheduling) it generates production dates of November 4th!!!
Seems totally illogical to me which suggests I must be missing something.
Answer:
Hi Anthony,
Let me understand your question: You have production order A, it has component, say just 1 component C1. C1' s planned delivery day is 3 days, and GR processing time 1 day. Let's say you don't have C1 in stock and you order C1 today. C1 will be available from day 5.
Do you mean you want the system to schedule the production order A from day 5 and proposes a finish date?
I guess the system can't do that.
Hi oh,
planned order scheduling does not take components' availability into account. For backward scheduling, it caculates start date from material master or routing data.
Answer:
HI PSK,
the header material of my planned order is entirely dependent on the components being in stock when i want to produce it. It's no use if the system schedules an order for the 4th ignoring the fact that the component to produce it won't be in until the 5th. Surely this can't be unique.
Is this not the basic principle of MRP???
Answer:
The situation is like that: you produce a product, since customers or other product need it. You schedule the planned order based on customer required date (backward scheduling), and this tells you when you should start the order.
Scheduling is tring to make delivery on time.
Once the scheduling is done, you check whether your components are available.
If order is always started once all components are available, then what is the purpose of material availability check? It is available anyway.
Hope this is clear
Answer:
Dear Psk and oh,
I want the system tell me when the components can be available for the production of the production order if take the procurement time of misssing components, that means is it possible to let me know when all the materials can be available?
Where to get the date? if all components can not delivered before the requested date by customer, our customer service person may have the possibility to cancel the customer order.
So still need your help.
regards,
Anthony
