service contracts

Question:
Hi,
When we create a service contract (VA41) and associate technical objects to it and subsequently create sales order/serivce orders. The problem is that if my "services" in the contract are say 5 units, still i am able to create more than 5 service orders with reference to the same contract (using contract selection), teco them etc...
What is the configuration in SD that will stop such over referencing of the contract. ie. for 5 nos. of service products offered, i should be stopped when i have referenced the contract 5 times...
This scenario should be applicable to contract which are not value or quantity contracts....

There is no standard functionality to restrict the number of service orders (SM01) created against a service contract (WV).
You would probably need to use one of the user-exits in the service orders.

Answer:
Hi Pete,
I feel very sure that there has been to be some standard functionality, because, if a contract has been fixed for some specific quantity, then obviously the user should not be able to provide more services to the customer using the same contract reference.
Going by business process, it seems totally out of sync. to have such a loose control. Don't u agree.
Answer:
bvi,
The quantity field in the SD service contract is usually used in one (or both) of the following ways:
1. To derive the billing amount e.g. 1x100=100, 2x100=200
2. To identify the number of rechnical objects (Equip, SerNo, etc) under contract.
To re-cap: there is no standard functionality in SD service contracts (type WV) to restrict the number of PM service orders.
If you want to restrict the number of calls, then use a quantity contract with release orders. The release orders would then automatically create service orders.
