Default Unit of weight on basic data view
When creating a material in mm01 - and selecting basic data and sales org 1 views - the unit of weight is defaulted to KG in the basic data view. (this is a 4.7 release). What configuration controls this default on the BASIC DATA view?

I've gone pretty much everywhere I know to try to find this, but nothing's surfacing in the IMG.
Just a question, is it possible you have a parameter id set in your user parameters that's defaulting this in? It's just not showing up anywhere else (unless you're in a retail application).
Nope- unfortuantely there is no paramater ID available for this value. After checking OSS note 482447 and checking the config in OMSR for 'propose field content' for both MARA and MARM tables - it still defaulted the value to KG. Thanks for the suggestion - I think I am sending ina OSS note for this.

Sorry not to be of more help - I can't even duplicate the issue in my own system.
are you on a 4.7 release? if so - I would be interested in some config settings you have - if you are not defaulting this on MM01 when selecting basic data AND sales views. thanks!!!!

I'm on 4.6c at this client, but I've worked 4.7 elsewhere and don't remember this coming up.
Hello Dave,
Here is the answer to your question:
Use transaction code OMSF. (Alternatively use path IMG -> Logistics General -> Material master -> Settings for key fields -> Define Material Groups). In the field Default Unit of weight perform F1. You get the following explanation:
Default unit of weight in the material master
Unit of weight that is proposed when creating materials with status V (that is, materials created from the Sales view).
Dependencies
If no material group is assigned to the material, or if a material group is assigned for which no unit of weight has been specified in Customizing for the Material Master in Define Material Groups, the SI (système internationale des unités) unit for the dimension MASS (normally kg) is proposed.

Leads to question (altho I think I am goin gto test this) - has anyone changed the SI unt for a deminsion? If so - wha were the repercusions? Thanks - this is my first experiecne at SAP Fans and so far its been great.
