Avoid duplicate PR's and PO's created for the same demand
Hi MM Gurus,
I am seeking your help.
The situation is as follows:
Current: we have 3 customer plants linked to one plant (parent plant MSC) via SPK, source list and schedule line. New demand coming from the customer plants, so, schedule lines created by MRP to the parent plant (M1). There was no enough stock in M1 PR, PO get created to satisfy the demand.
New Situation: we want to realign our demand and supply by directing the demand for the 3 customer plants from M1 Plant to M2 plant by changing the SPK's and deleting the source list. Then, the schedule lines that were created previously will be deleted and new schedule lines will be created to M2 plant to satisfy the demand coming from the same customer plants. There was no stock in the M2 then PR, PO created.
The problem:
We will have duplicate PR's and PO's created for the same demand
my Questions:
1- How can avoid duplicate PR's and PO's created for the same demand after the linking and delinking.
3- How can we link the received PO to the schedule lines that been deleted already
2- How can we make the stock available in M1 plant visible to M2 plant at the time of reacting to the new demands without moving the stock from M1 to M2.
I hope that I've explained my case clearly.
Hi Rak,
The only uncertainty that I have not got through from your rather detailed posting is if two customizings are set currently at your system or you would like to check what you should do to encounter to the potential risks of PR/PO duplication during the transitional period (to change from the old process to the new one). Anyhow, set out below will be my comments to your inquiries.
1- How can avoid duplicate PR's and PO's created for the same demand after the linking and delinking.
I do not envisage any potential duplication of PR/PO during this transitional period. The reason is that all material requirements have been converted to fixed/firm procurement elements (PR/PO) and therefore, any change in the 'source of supply' (from Central Plant into Customer Plant) will only have an impact on the new requirements (during planning run). Yet, attention shall be duly paid to the fact that the stock coverage of the Central Plant shall be made available at the requirement dates of the previous reservations during the transitional period.
2- How can we make the stock available in M1 plant visible to M2 plant at the time of reacting to the new demands without moving the stock from M1 to M2.
This is subject to how you set up the authorization profile for your end users so that they can be able to check the stock availability of the Customer Plant (M2) prior to making any reservation. The standard report (MB52, MMBE, for instance) can well serve your specific requirement.
3- How can we link the received PO to the schedule lines that been deleted already
First of all, if the SA Delivery Schedule is used, there is not any Release Order to be generated. Secondly, why do you have to delete the SA Delivery Schedule?

Ha Tran,
I really appreciate your prompt response, this is really what makes the difference in this forum.

It’s happening with our situation, because at the time of deleting the links between the customer plants and M1 plant the schedule line will disappear from the MD04 list of M1 (we don’t want to firm the schedule line ) and new schedule lines will created to M2 plant, so MRP will look at this as a new demand and create another PR and PO from the new plant M2.
Why we don’t want to firm the schedule lines? Because if the customer dropped his requirements for any reason he will still receive the material in his plants if the schedule line is firmed and we will loose the chance of giving this materials to other requirements coming to the parent plant that receives all the requirements from different plants.
Yet, attention shall be duly paid to the fact that the stock coverage of the Central Plant shall be made available at the requirement dates of the previous reservations during the transitional period.
Please explain more.

We want MRP to see this as available stock logically in the new plant M2 although it’s physically in another plant M1. We though of creating virtual locations by WM guys rejected the idea.

Secondly, why do you have to delete the SA Delivery Schedule?Firstly, the schedule line will pass the requirements to the central plants if no stocks available a PR and PO will be created from that central plant to satisfy the schedule lines.
Second, we are not deleting the schedule line but it will deleted automatically once deleted the source list and the SPK which we really need to redirect the demand to another plant.
Thanks in advance,

Hi Rak,
Hopefully, my further clarifications meet your expectations -
It’s happening with our situation, because at the time of deleting the links between the customer plants and M1 plant the schedule line will disappear from the MD04 list of M1 (we don’t want to firm the schedule line ) and new schedule lines will created to M2 plant, so MRP will look at this as a new demand and create another PR and PO from the new plant M2.
Perhaps, I can see now the problem where the procurement elements were not fixed/firmed and therefore, once running MRP again (for the historical material requirements) all procurement elements will be deleted. However, have you ever thought of using the planning mode in the initial screen of the planning run? In this case, all non-fixed procurement elements will be determined during the next MRP running. By doing this, I am pretty sure that all of historical material requirements will not be deleted.

What I do mean is that since the historical material requirements were still available, you have to make sure that you will have sufficient stock to make all necessary goods issues to your customer plants (for the existing requirements). Of course, the new requirements will be raised directly to your customer plants M2 after the new process is set in place.

I would not make any further comment on this point till you clarify a little bit additionally on how you would like the system to behave.

I would not strongly recommend to delete all of existing material requirements (in terms of scheduling lines) once adopting the new process since if this has been done, this will cause a lot of problems from the material availability point of view. My permanent solution is to keep the existing requirements unchanged and only adopt this new process to the new requirements.
