Default account assignment in PO

Question:
Pls. help on this issue:
Our scenario is:
- For purchase of non-stock items (f.ex office supplies) with account assignment P, K or A the system should default a G/L account when creating the PO (account assignment is not allowed by the user).
- We will have one or more standard materials of type 'non-stock' defined for each possible G/L account posting.
As we have about 80-100 different G/L accounts relevant for these type of purchases, will it then be neccesary to have a seperate valuation class per G/L account? Any other options?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
- For purchase of non-stock items (f.ex office supplies) with account assignment P, K or A the system should default a G/L account when creating the PO (account assignment is not allowed by the user).
This can be met by setting in Transaction OME9 where you have to define the appropriate account grouping in the 'Account Modification' field (VBR, for instance) for your particular account assignment category. The mapping between account grouping/general modification (Transaction/Event Key) GBB/VBR with the specifc G/L account will, then, be made via Transaction OBYC.
- We will have one or more standard materials of type 'non-stock' defined for each possible G/L account posting.
In this case, I would recommend you to look additionally at Transaction OMQW where you will define the linkage between Material group and Valuation Class. The respective Valuation class (by material group) will help define appropriate G/L account when you define the mapping between GBB/VBR with respective G/L Account.
As far as the usage of valuation class per G/L account, I would think that this is subject to your company's finance and controlling policy. However, my experiences with several companies shown that this is not recommendable.
Cheers,

Could you please elaborate on this. As I see it, the consequence of having one valuation class per material is that
1) a new G/L account requires a nev valuation class to be set up (this happens not that often)
2) the person responsible for maintainin the material master must know the G/L account assignment principles
Why would you not recommend this?
