Subcontracting but w/0 BOM

Question:
hi MM experts,
I am not able to generate a subcontracting PO for
a material - Cable 'XXX' which has procured in meters(nomally 1 rol of 100m) as ROH
i.e component goes as 100 m to subcontracting... and
the same is received in meters (but 1m x 100 pieces)
Its is required to cut these cables in length of 1 meter for which
i raise a subcontracting PO (labour charges for cutting)
. But since the component and finished product is same, PO says there exist no BOM.
Should I create a self-BOM for this.
please advice...
many thanks
ssk
Answer:
Hi SSK,
What I recommend you to look at is to set up two different material numbers with respective two material type - ROH and FERT. They can be named as - 'Cable in roll' (ROH) and 'Processed Cable in metre'. The Base UOM will be roll (for raw cable) and m (for finished Cable). The BOM can be set where 1 roll of Cable in roll = 100 m of Processed Cable in metre.
Let me know if this works.
Cheers,
HT

Hi SSK:
I agree with Ha Tran, and the 2 Material solution, but there are some customers that prefer (for various reasons) to use the same material.
I can say from personal experience that a Recursive BOM (a Bom with
the Produced Material also as the Component) works in the Subcontracting process of SAP, although you may get a Warning Message.
Have Fun!
