Question:
Could you please help me on this one. My client is asking for a release procedure for purchase requisitions which is based on what are the users requesting (material group) and who is the requester (cost center). The first releaser is based on the cost center, the second, on the material group.
In this case the normal way would be to create release strategies with all the combinations. For example if the material group is "IT assets" and the cost center is "maintance" then the release strategy would contain two release codes, the first is the user who is responsible for the "maintance" cost center, the second release code is the user who is responsible for the material group "IT". This is all right.
But: the client has about 40 cost centers and 50 material groups! That means about 2000 release strategies! Of course I would do anything to avoid to implement that
But what can be a solution than for this problem???

Hi,
If it is of your company's policy that the release strategy is to be determined based upon both material group and cost center, then it is mandatory that they should be created in SAP as part of your release characeteristics. What does concern me is if you are having different release strategy for each and every combination of such cost center, material group as my experiences with several companies indicated that despite of many combination of various release characteristics, the number of release strategies was restricted to a limited number.
