STO receiving question

Question:
We are using STO with delivery notes. When receiving them via MIGO, they can either be received against a material document (STO#) or outbound delivery (delivery note#).
Has anyone a similar situation and decided for one way or the other? I like the tighter control when receiving against the STO, but for some reason it was decided by SD that we should receive against DL's.

Answer:
Hi,
It was of one of our local companies to determine that both solutions shall be alternatively applied subject to the specific type of business operations. Of course, there were advantages and disadvantages for each and every option and it is up to the company to decide when and how they should use it. I would probably maintain that from the tigher cost control (especially delivery by truck) point of view, the selection of Outbound Delivery (Deliery Note) will be best since it is easily managed each and every shipment delivery by truck and therefore, can facilitate the transportation costs determination.

Answer:
Hi HT,
Thanks for your reply. I found that the problem when receiving against delivery notes was that 1) the entire STO was displayed in MIGO, even if some items had already been received previously, and 2) it gave the shipping plant the freedom to increase quantities or even add on items that were not part of the STO.
When receiving against material doc/STO this can't happen. I am not too familiar with transportation cost determination, so you might have a good point there.

MMPP
