Question:

Does anyone know where to change field status for above transaction?
I don't want the "Batch" field to be mandatory. I want to be able to simply enter a quantity. My reference document for this transaction is a STO (purchase order).

If in the material master the batch management is set active for the desired material, then the batch becomes mandatory in the movement.
Am I wrong?

I believe you are correct. Check the batch management flag in the material master record plant level view. If it's on, then it cannot be turned off.
