IDES install query
Hi all,
I'm attempting to install IDES on my Win2K system. I'm following the IDES install guide downloaded from service.sap.com. It states:
1) insert 4.6C-Kernel-CD
<CD_Drive>:\NT\COMMON\R3setup.bat
This step creates the install-directory <install-dir> \users\<SID>adm\install and copies the installation-tools and different installation templates into it. CENTRDB.R3S and DATABASE.R3S should not be used because they request the standard DB-Export-CDs.
2) Install the central instance using the standard template CENTRAL.R3S
..the first step I've done. However, there's very little docs I can find about part 2. Does anyone has such a document that outlines what to enter for the various parameters here ?
In particular, one step asks about the SAP msg server requiring sapms<SAPSID>with port 3600+<SAPSYSTEMNUMBER> . Have tried various perms here to no effect. My SAPSID is C11, but what is SAPSYSTEMNUMBER and what would a successful entry here look like? My install aborts at this point. I'm including the central.log below.
Any help here most appreciated.

>In particular, one step asks about the SAP msg server requiring >sapms<SAPSID>with port 3600+<SAPSYSTEMNUMBER> .
System number can be anything from 00 to 98. So 00 will work fine.
If you have a DB instance and an AP instance, they can't have the same number.
You are however getting errors i haven't seen before...
Add your own hostname/ip in the hosts file and try again.
The host name is case sesitive.
Also you might want to check if "port 3600+<SAPSYSTEMNUMBER> " is in the service file...
normally done, during install, you're asked for a system number.
Maybe for IDES, they don't offer the choice of system number.
did you got the chance to input the system number?
The install proces has problems with linking sapmsC11
Does the entry exists in your services file ?
You have to Make sure that you have mapped the IP address and host name in HOST file on your server. You also must have a working NIC. If you do not have one physically installed then you must use Microsoft Loopback adapter and assign it a local Lan IP such as 131.107.2.2 with a subnet mask 255.255.255.0
You must also, one-by-one give special authorizations to <SID>ADM for each of the fixed drives that will be used for installation.
You must also optimize network throughput.
You must setup SAPTRANSHOST for the timebeing for installation which you can do away after the installation is over. 127.0.0.1 will not work as it is reserved by the system for talk-back.
It is not clear from your message whether you created the <SID>ADM user and logged on using that? Or you are logged on as Administrator?
Have you made sure by piniging your server name that you get the local IP address in return and have you made sure by pinging the IP address that host name that comes back is in all LOWER case.
Have you assigned to <SID>ADM the capability to log-on as service.

Hi Khalid,
I'm posting your text with my updates - would appreciate your feedbac:

jason is the host - can ping. Can ping local host as well.

...the central.bat file created such a user.
As it stands now, here are the entries in thr services file.
Entries in services:

sapgw00 3300/tcp
sapgw00s 4800/tcp
sapmsC11 3600/tcp
...one more thing, this is the major issue I am working on now.
Any ideas on how to set the UID for CURRENTUSER? I think if I can get this problem solved, I should be ok for the rest of the install. It is generated by the file CDINST.R3S

Hi,
I'm wondering if there's an issue between NT and Win2K in terms of variable settings? To explain, my PC runs Win2k and I thought the fact that IDES was NT would not be an issue. But it seems that my system can't handle the way that $CURRENTUSER$ is picked up.
I've tried changing to %CURRENTUSER% and various perms of USERNAME, since USERNAME is listed when I try the SET command in DOS whereas CURRENTUSER is not.
So the crux is how to get w2k to recognise run time variables?
