Has anyone any suggestions?

Question:

Hi All, I am a total newbee to SAP and I has been asked to jump in at the deep end by starting out with a basic Desktop, 2ghz, 1 x 40gb HD, 256mb with the following Demo SAP/ORA config:
Windows 2000 Server SP2
Active Directory Domain Network
SAP IDES 4.6c
Oracle 8.1.7.1
Installation as a Central Standalone (all-in-one) Server (SAP+ORA Server)
1) Does anyone have any suggestions as to a more newbee compatible set of installation instructions?
2) Does anyone have any suggestions as to what possible cause maybe the result of the following error and (if possible) what action should be taken next?
Many thanks in advance.
Brendon

Answer:
I remember doing some priminary steps before starting the IDES installation. There are few files which need to be copied over NT directories before you start. Please check with some steps of this in the begining of the installation guide. Also, look for IDES installation in sapservice.
Answer:
1. are you using the correct installation guide from SAP?
2. Are you following the guide step by step very carrefully? Can you show us the latest complete R3S.x log file?
Regards,
Pijoh

I cross reference both the IDES installation and the default installation guides. So the short answer is, Done
Can you show us the latest complete R3S.x log file?

I have now hit a brick wall, as no matter which path I enter as to, where the installation can find the "Export CDs", I always get the above errors.
The above errors concern me as, I am not sure is it looking for a registration key, but I have not yet been asked to enter one. (me thinks).
I have tried pointing the path to, both the CD drive "D:" and the hard drive copy of the CD's on the hard drive i.e. "c:\ides". Reading the installation guides it instructs me to insert the "1of7" of the "DB-Export" CD installation set. However, if you look at the above (in bold) log the error messages clearly suggest that I should be inserting a CD which is "1of4", but there is no batch of 4 CD's in the IDES demo pack?
Is this because the "copy export4" failed and the error log has no reduce the number of CD's in the complete set to 4xExport CD's because it has only successfully copied 4 of the 7 to the hard drive, or am I getting totally mixed up here
In anycase, many thanks for your above input, and any further help you maybe able to offer.
P.S. Sorry admin, I do not intend to SPAM your board, I just didnt see any other way to upload the log file.
Answer:
Sorry oldsapguru, I did not mean to miss your message...
Can you even hold IDES in 40gig?
I must yeild to your experiance (as I have non), however the installation guide suggests 32gig, so I trimmed the DBSize template back by 6gigs in order to get the installation to fit within my limitations. As I have not yet reach the point (I think) where the installation fails because of the size requirements, I live in hope that my trimming efforts may pay off.
The short answer is, "your right", but the long answer goes something like this....until I can prove your right, I am going to have to get the rest of the install working upto that point. I have been instructed (by the powers that be) that "it should be able to work with as little as 10 gigs, if I put the effort in".
Ours is not to reason way, ours is to get it done or find a new job lol
Answer:
Hi Newbee,
It's not licensing problem. During the installation, no SAP license is required.
The problem is only due to the fact that SAP cannot find the spesific file required. It sometime (oftenly..) may happen like this.
If i'm not mistaken, for SAP IDES 4.6C, there are 7 SAP DATA EXPORT, right?
I used to do something like this:
1. Instead of letting SAP copy the export CD to harddrive, you'd better copy it manually to a directory, such as C:/SAPEXPORT/DATA1 to C:/SAPEXPORT/DATA7
2. Then try to restart your installation from the beginning. PS, before you restart, you need to rename file CENTRDB.R3S to some othe name, then rename file CENTRDB.R3S.0 to CENTRDB.R3S
3. During the installation, if SAP ask you to specify the location of export data, put these directories instead of your "D" drive. And leave the target (or copy..) directory remains blank.
Let me know the update.
Btw, Can you please send me the latest CENTRDB.R3S file to me. My email is epijoh@hotmail.com

Good Luck,
Pijoh
Answer:
I think you have the wrong CENTRDB.R3S. Is there one delivered on the IDES CD which you are supposed to replace the standard installation file with? This would explain why it is only looking for 4 CDs (standard) rather than 7 IDES export cds.
dingbat.
Answer:
Newbee don't worry, old sapguru has be guessing he is not that intelligent, I had problems with my first installation of IDES
you should not be trying to install on DOmain Controller because that is wht it sound like you are doing.
The machine needs to seperate from the DC
Make sure you have the proper permissions set fot the the 2 new users sap creates that creates a big problem and you will receive these errors.
You will need to make a clens installation at this point because of all the problems with the path, I know that does not sound good or uninstall sap and start over.
Answer:
You need to search the cd's or dvd's that you are using for files called label.asc. Open these in notepad and find the one that the installation is looking for. i.e. :
SAP:R/3:46C SR 2:EXPORT(1/4): for CD EXPORT1 in path D:.
Once you have found the correct one you must make sure this is available on a local disk AND that you have read write access as the installation needs to write to some files.
