Question:
Hi all,
I have a presentation to make , i want to know the difference between an sap report and sap sapscript. i want a literal definition for both of them. i know both of them retrieve data and present it on the screen , but i want the major differences between them.
also i want the differences between sap script and smartforms.

Answer:
An SAP report can be produced out of the system a number of ways (ABAP program, Report Writer Program, Query etc etc). A SAPscipt is a layout set, which positions data explicitly on a page, draws lines & boxes, logo's etc. Data is passed to it from an ABAP print Program.
A SAPscipt on its own does nothing & always has to have an ABAP Print program.
The ABAP print program can print out diectly, and does not necessarily have to use a SAPscript.
Smartforms is the replacement for SAPscript in (I think) v4.6 and above.

Reports are usually created for company-internal use whereas sapscript-forms are used for communication with third-parties like customers and suppliers. The main reason for this is that once printed, generally sapscript-forms look good and reports don't.
And indeed smartforms are the 4.6C version of sapscript which has been around a while. Technically these two are so different that a sapscript-programmer needs some time before being able to work well with smartforms.
