How can you validate entries on the selection screen ( not by using at selection screen event and any of its additions )?

I meant F1 specifically on the selection screen parameters statement. There are add-ons like "as search pattern" or "value check"...
But if you wanna be philosophical about the question, you can always say you can also put the validation in start-of-selection and just put an "if" statement and output an error message or something. Ey, the question was just to validate the selection screen without using At Selection Screen event...
