Question:
Hi, we are looking at going on a 10 day (as cheap as possible) trip to Scotland &the Lakes , there are 2 of us. we have friends near Motherwell, and Grangemouth, so we can stay there with them for a few days, do stuff like Edinburgh, Glasgow from there.
We were wanting to stay in St. Andrew's for a night and somewhere else further North for a night - and wondered if anyone had any reccomendations of nice places to visit.
Also any different ideas for the Edinburgh/Glasgow region would be great. my OH gets bored of shopping easily! We have done the Edinburgh bus tour.
After that we want to spend a night or 2 in the Lake District - OH suggested camping but I think that would be a bit chilly in March, so any ideas of cheap and CLEAN hotels/b&b's anywhere in the lakes would be great.
thanks in advance!
Answers:
Central Scotland
Stirling is a great plce to visist, you have the wonderful castle ( I much prefer it to Edinburgh), the Wallace Monument, Sherrifmuir and Bannockburn.
Further along its a nice drive along the Hillfoots (along the Ochil Hills) and Dollar has fantastic Castle Campbel (Castle Glume) I personally think one of the best settings for a castle in Scotland.
In Falkirk they now have the great new Falkirk Wheel and is a wonder of engineering, I'm not into things like that and even I found it facinating!
Of course a visit to the Trossachs is a must!
Further afield......you can never go wrong with a visit to Skye or the North West....a fair drive but it is wonderful.
Hope you have a great trip!
