Question:
Hi all,
Can anyone help with this :
I've got quite a complicated work situation. I'm employed on a casual/part-time basis as a driver for a delivery firm. I get between 0 and 25 hours a week work from them. I also work on a self-employed basis as a driving instructor (0-12 hours a week) and for a local temporary work agency (around 15 hours a month).
I've been trying to find out whether I'm entitled to any benefits (tax credit, I'm guessing) but I run up against the difficulty of filling in forms when my weekly income varies so much. I can only work out my taxable income at the end of the tax year. For the last 3 or 4 years this has been below £10K pa.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Answers:
Some benefits look at your income from the previous tax year, and others over the previous X weeks or months. For each form, it would be worth phoning any helpline and asking what they want you to do about declaring your variable income, and what to do about changes. Housing Benefit, for example, would probably be a nightmare to claim ... but I could be wrong!
