Question:
Hi,
As most of you will agree that one cannot avoid having problems with Dell Laptops...
I bought Inspiron 6400 in July 2006 and paid using my Credit card.
I have been going through many problems with it :
1. I had a problem with my Sound-card with lots of problems with Mic.
Got the motherboard replaced
2. DVD RW drive was not able to read CDs/DVDs
Got the drive replaced
Now the latest problem is again with the DVD RW drive...
I did lot of research and found that Dell laptops come with lots of 'in-built' problems..
Can I think of returning this laptop and claim full refund as I am still in Warranty period and already have had many problems..
Any thoughts??

Sounds like you've just been unlucky. Generally my experience (and other people I know in the IT industry) has been good with Dell laptops. They would certainly be closer to the top of my list than the bottom when getting a new laptop.

Sorry to hear of your problems. I'm sure that DellCA (Kathryn) will be able to help you.
Nice to see Dell take an active part on this board too. Well done Kathryn.

Had the same laptop since September.
No problems at all.
Very pleased with laptop and Dell service.
I guess there is always the exception.
Looks like they are going to provide help though.
Hope they sort you out.

It's on a sticker on the bottom, and also in the bios settings

I have used Dell laptops for years. Their reliability is above industry average and their customer service is quite good. Friends who use them privately or at work generally speak highly of them.
I would not hesitate to buy another Dell, though I would recommend their 3 year on site warranty for peace of mind. They are at least as good in terms of value for money as anything else, and better than most.
I have no affiliation of any kind with Dell.
Honest.

You've been unlucky I think. I've had a Dell Inspiron 8200 for four years now and it just goes on and on.

We've got a Dell at home as the family PC, I have a Dell laptop and I've just ordered another laptop for my Dad. The only issue I have with them is the volume of rubbish software pre-installed. It takes ages to get rid of it all.
Great to see the Customer Advocate on here, even if I'm not sure exactly what she does.

You tell Dell they had no right installing rubblish software onto the pc the you bough and trying to get tho to them that you have an ISP and you dont want to spend 30 minutes + removing their software, and they just say o we put it on there for are customers. O wait a minute did I ask for MY pc to be filled up with ISP software and 30 day trails NO I DID NOT. I say why not have those rubbish software on a CD so if the customer(end user) wants to put the software on they can do so and the dell person just said o we put it on for our customers. How stupid of dell. So my advice is do a clean install and wipe all the rubbish software off that stupid dell put on it.

i believe the way dell install windows onto their pcs and laptops is via a image file because its quicker to put that on each hard drive and put that harddrive in a computer and let the end user configure it a bit ,
personally i actually liked the bloatware dell installed on my notebook (inspiron e1505/6400) gave me a chance to give the core duo processor a test of how it handles multi tasking :P.

Maybe so, but after all you build the pc to want YOU want not want DELL wants.

I have had countless problems with my Alienware laptop bought in June, and I requested a refund 2 months after the purchase, but they refused, saying they would only give me a refund if I returned the laptop to them and they could not fix/replace? But I've had 2 internal things replaced already, and it is ongoing.. Am I entitled to a refund?
