Question:
For some time now my PC has been slowing down. Running XP pro three profiles on it.
IT often indicates that one programme is running when I cant find anything running. I use Spyboy and CCleaner regularly.
I have posted a Hijack this logfile incase any kind technical wizard can tell me if there is something that is doing any damage.

Press Alt-Ctrl-Del and then click Task manager. Click the processes tab, then click "CPC" at the top of the cpu column.

You need to look at the CPU and CPU time columns, they will tell you which processes are actually using the cpu.
If you click on the header for the cpu column it will sort the column by cpu usage, so the ones using the cpu the most will jump to the top of the list.
You may have to watch it for a while, if your computer is not doing anything, and try it at different times. Particularly when your computer says something is running and you can't find what it is.

There doesn't look to be anything problematic in your listings. FWIW I have notice that my PC seems to run slower than it once did. I came to the conclusion (without any real evidence) that cumulative updates from MS may be the cause. Not the accumulation of updates per se but changes in the code.
One thing I would suggest is get hold of something like this:
which will allow you to see and stop the applications which are running at startup. But even then it won't make that much difference. The other suggestion I would make is you can sometimes get a performance boost by turning off all the Windows special effects such as shadows etc.
I have a theory that the perceived slowdown in computer speed is as much psychological as anything else. Perhaps it's time to start saving up for a new machine (or at least some extra RAM for the one you have.)

Thanks for that. It is definately slower than it was and I think some more RAM will definately help. Just wondered if there was anything else that might be slowing it all down. I'll try the link you sugget Mr Squiddy
