Question:
Hi,
Having a lot of problems setting up netgear router with aol. Internet green light on ok connections and cables to computer ok but at step 9 trying to connect to aol fails, though I have input screen name +password correctly.
Im kinda giving up on this and looking for a workaround. At present my voyager 105 is connection fine to aol through aol software and dialler (though not dun as it seemed to stop working a week ago when line speed was increased and I also went down to aol silver)
To summarize is there a workaround where I can still use voyager to connect adn just use router to transmit the signal around the house? A solution like that is better than nothing.
Hope someone can help
joe

You cannot use your 105 and connect it to your router because it does not have an Ethernet port, so forget the 105 and configure the router correctly. may help you with the set up.

Thanks a lot for that. Still trying to get connected. When I installed a pc1 ethernet card (pcline from pc world £7.99) the installation seemed to go ok ..xp detected it ok) and the netgear router is able to see speed of connection etc green internet light is on. As a part of troubleshooting I ran test utility that came with ethernet card and got this fatal error ...no lan board installed on computer. Though everything seems fine in device manager no exclamation marks against it etc. Any bearing do you think motherboard is an old one ga 71xe ...bought computer from mesh 200, but as stated earlier voyager 105 is connecting me ok

Once the ipconfig file has been created, you can view the file from within windows i.e. navigate to it using Explorer.
Basically a network card should conform to 10/100 Ethernet standards, so swapping it for a Netgear one should not make any difference!
Persevere and you will get there.

If chap authentication is failing, your aol id/password is wrong.
from expresso's link..
You must type the Screen Name in lower case
Your Screen Name must not contain any spaces
You must add @aol.com after the AOL Screen Name
The Screen Name must have General (18+) Parental Controls access (not Mature Teen, Young Teen or Kids Only)
The password cannot be longer than eight characters long
The password must consist of letters and numbers only (i.e. no spaces or special characters such as: ! £ ? or %)
The password must be all lower case
or possibly your adsl settings on the router, they are normally vc-based 0 38 , but AOL are always awkward, so who knows?
The fact that you have done this Sun, 2002-09-08 12:00:44 - Administrator login successful - IP:192.168.0.2 suggest to me that there is nothing wrong with your ethernet card..
