Question:
Hi
Im having a problem with 1 of my email accounts. Basically i keep getting a load of spam, only recently though. I use the email address as 1 of my business addresses and so have probably given it to the wrong person who in turn has sent it off or whatever.
I have tried to stop them getting through but they always come from a different person, different email address and witht he title changed slightly so you cannot block them. E.G. the last 2 have been for v!agra and vlagra.
The emails are exactly the same set up, some website and below it a little sentence about something random or a poem. They are mad and i receive about 10 a day now. How can i stop them or can i not?
Thanks in advance

Try for an excellent FREE anti spam solution.

If you use Outlook, try Spambayes:
It also works with any POP3 or IMAP email account... though I haven't quite figured out how yet!

I have used before and found it useful.
However now that I use Mozilla Thunderbird as my email client I have no need for it as the spam mover on it is pretty sufficient.

Actually I have been inundated with returned emails (that I have of course never sent).
As these seem to genuinely come from daemon or postmaster the spam filter doesn't stop them.
Any ideas?

Hi, I had the same problem recently and all the returned mails looked like they came from my personal ISP address. I got on to my ISP and they said it was likely someone was spoofing my mail address by putting anything before the @myemail.org address. They also said that this was only possible if i had a 'catch-all' email address enabled, which I had, once i disabled this these spoof emails stopped coming. Hope this helps

I am having the same problem, How did you disable the 'catch all' email address? I have had the same address for years spam free. I have recently changed broadband provider and wondered if this was the cause. It did start off by receiving stock emails, but it has now progressed to the above.

I think what Caspol meant was he was receiving all email to every possible address at his domain name, it isn't relevant if you only have a single email address and don't own the domain. I get the same thing and they typiclly send the spam to sales@ accounting@ webmaster@ mydomain.co.uk etc. So far no spam to the specific email addresses I've registered with people.

Unfortunately it seems impossible to block this stuff because it comes through with no sender's email address.
I have tried to ste up message rules in OE to include a phrase which recurs often in the body of one of the worst culprits, in the hope to filter at least some of this spam, but to no avail.

i am getting it also all very strange

I have my own domain name with Demon (e.g.John@mydomainname.demon.co.uk or ) and have been getting dozens of spam e-mails. They are usually something like this:
I have now been able to restrict my e-mails to only those I've authorised. i.e. John or Jane @......
Brilliant...........

will try that on mine - it's gettin out of control!

I use MailWasher to check and delete all unwanted email on the servers before I download any email to my computer. That way you can get rid of any spam+attachments before it gets near your PC. The last freeware version (1.33) is available here:
Click on the Download link there not on the website link. MailWasher 1.33 allows you to check multiple email accounts if you have more than one. I check five. More recent versions dont. It also lets you set up filters to tag emails for deletion. For example you can set up a filter so that if the spam is not directly addressed to you (e.g. instead of ) the email can be automatically tagged for deletion. It's not too difficult to set up and worth trying as its free. And best of all it stops the spam and any attachments from getting onto your PC.
By the way, dont bounce the spam in Mailwasher as it wont go back to the sender just to someone whose address has been forged. Just delete it.

Hi all
there are two things you can do when one of your email accounts get out of control because of too much spam.
The easiest thing to do is remove it from your your regular email program (like outlook express), you can still check your emails and write them, by connecting to your provider's website and using the mail function and your password.
Another thing you can do (what I use regularly) is to instal a program like ICQ, set your pc on invisible, so you won't be disturbed by instant messages all the time and set the function of "check email on servers" (you find it in the "services"). When you connest to the net, before opening your email program wait until ICQ is connected, then you can check your mail there, cancel everything you don't want in your pc with a few clicks and then open your mail program.

HI there Getting The same Problem for a couple of weeks now,
Seems to me they are using a new program that inserts random letters into the message so
viagra turns into (todays example) VImAGRA VAmLIUM
Subject matter always changes as well (todays) RE: news 487
also return path and sender changes,
so folks any rule based filtering aint going to catch all the spam
Going to complain to a few server ISP but got a horrible feeling there Bouncing of legit servers
Really hope this dies off Soon
if I find out any more will post
Please do the same
All the best
