do you just want to copy it onto a cd / dvd or make it playable in a dvd player?

Hi
You'll need to convert it to dvd, In Nero you need to select Nero Vision, and then just add your file, and it will convert and burn it for you.
I personally use this one, but its not free, but its pretty good and fast.

Whilst the MSE saving may not be the place, we could well use a forum of freeware/shareware that copies/converts etc. Whilst I have bought Nero, plus Slysoft Clone, why is it that I always end up finding DVD Shrink 3.2 better, everytime, and free, for just copying a DVD.
And with so many people using PSPs, so few seem to understand that with PSP Video9 they can convert just about anything to run on the PSP, for free?
Please note, I am not suggesting a forum that explains how to rip anything to anything, copyright free, but just some ideas for some tools that have a track record behind them of just doing the job. And many of these would seem to be free - whereas a search for paid for products turns up zillions of products that in theory will do the job, which turn out to be very underdeveloped.
I'm not suggesting a rival to , but just some basic links to freeware products and a brief description of what they do, and some kind of testimonial from a MSE member who rates them.
Anyone prepared to set something going?

On a simlar theme, I wanted to burn a DVD of a home movie. Using WinDVD creator the only way seemed to be to drag the VOB files across and burn. Any attempt to drag in whole folders or other than vob files failed. But this resulted in the sound being way out of synch when played on a std. home dvd player. I suspect that not using the IFO files may have somehow lost the synch information.
Can anyone recommend how to make a carbon copy of a home dvd (no encryption involved) which has a structure of VOB and IFO files?

nemo183, I downloaded DVD Shrink 3.2 but then discovered it seems you can't use it on it's own, need to download & install another program to do the actual burning and this 2nd program is a paid for one. Is this what you found? I am trying to create a simple copy of a whole DVD whose content originated from someone's camcorder.

Nero has a copy dvd function
Answers:
has a dvd copy function which should work. Nero has a copy dvd function as well.
Like some other freeware, eg deepburner, burn4free claims only to support burning a data DVD. So little is my experience of DVD burning that I'm not sure if this means it can create a copy of a (non encrypted) DVD for Video replay on a standard DVD player.

Have you tried nero, I know that definitely works with dvd movie disks

You are right, I downloaded Burn4free and tried to copy a video dvd. It didn't work. sorry for the duff info
Apart from the nero suggestion have you tried dvd shrink but instead for trying a straight burn to disk create an iso file instead and then burn the iso

The best place to download is from
Assuming the DVD is in normal DVD format, then you shouldn't need any other software. In fact, DVD Shrink 3.2 is completely stand alone freeware. If you need more functionality - eg conversion to other formats, devices etc, a good product to buy is slysofts DVDClone:
Good luck!

Videohelp is a great site. There appear to be no freeware DVD burners though. One came free with my PC, it looks like an exact clone of WinDVD creator but it is only able to build DVDs by picking out the VOB files one by one whiich has a side effect of losing the sound synch and correct starting points once the resulting DVD is viewed on a domestic player. Not keen to pay for any other software till I know it will work perfectly & not produce coasters.

DVD shrink 3.2 is a completely free DVD burner, that also allows you to re-author a DVD so that you can strip it of unwanted/needed content, making the quality of your copy better.
The problem is that many commercial DVDs are dual layer, ie have twice the capacity of a single layer DVD that you are copying on to. However, if you use DVD shrink you can just copy the main film, without the trailers and bonus bits, and this will fit on a single layer DVD.
Just thought - don't forget that there is a difference between DVD -R and DVD +R - some players work with both, some only one.

My DVD burning program does not allow iso files to be dragged into the production area, only VOB files. There's no obvious way to burn from iso to iso using the Video part of the package.

This is a or if it helps I have a spare copy of nero that I got when I got my lightscribe drive that you are more than welcome to

Just a note Nero and Roxio dont like to be on the same PC as eachother, I would remove Roxio as I expect codec conflicts could be arising, if no go just go back to square one.
