New computer. which company ?

Question:
Hi everyone, My pc is coming to the end of its usefullness and i am looking to buy a new pc. Now i dont really need the speakers and monitor so i'm looking at base units, towers..
With so many companies to choose from has anyone got good recomendations and of course companies to avoid.
There are a couple which stand out for me. "power computing" of bedford and dell oulet (euro dell) where i can get a refurbished dell at a good price.
anyone had dealings with the above companies ??

Personally I like Gladiator computers,
Do you have a price or spec you want to buy?
Answers:
Komplett.co.uk are pretty good too

Try MESH computers, . they have excellent build quality and customer service with 3 years free collect and return warranty included. Look out a spec online and then phone them. You can always get the price down if you are a shrewd haggler.
Hope this helps

Hope this helps Well that's been the opposite of my experience. Mesh's customer service has been the worst I've ever come across, currently Mesh still have our pc and it first went in to them to replace a graphics card back in December! That was with onsite warranty which they rarely seem to uphold. Every time you phone you get put on hold for ages (if you don't get cut off) and then you may be unlucky enough to get diverted to an indian call centre where the line is so bad/choppy that communication is impossible especially when they can't seem to comprehend any kind of "Northern" accent and you have to explain your entire problem all over again from scratch to every single person.

I must agree with superscaper, after sales is almost non existant with MESH, and when it does raise its ugly head you would have wished it had not, I have seen a broken monitor being replaced with one that looks like someone has poured tea down the back of it, which is better than the one they first tried to replace it with which just would plain not work.
Avoid Mesh

Avoid Mesh That's interesting as the last time we got our pc back from Mesh (where they hadn't fixed the problem and hence sent back) the front of it was covered in coffee. I complained about this as a separate issue but they claimed it must have happened AFTER they posted it in transit. But the box still had the Mesh seal sticker intact and the PC was inside a plastic bag within the box that was still sealed.

It sounds like MESH have lost it then. I got my MESH computer about 5 years ago. I actually fused the motherboard when I added a new DVD drive and they uplifted it and replaced it within a week at no cost. My friend also got a problem fixed efficiently as wee at no extra cost. I would go with the others though. If they have had experirnces like that the I would AVOID MESH.

Reading other people's problems there do seem to be a lot of long time Mesh supporters who say how good support was several years ago when they first bought off them but it's now completely different.

My latest one came from Komplett and I'm very happy with it. Good service and you can alter the spec to you liking within certain limits. No idea if their aftersales is any good though, hopefully I won't have to find out either!

No idea if their aftersales is any good though, hopefully I won't have to find out either! That's the trouble really, it's impossible to know what customer service is like until you actually need it, and presumably by definition there is something wrong with the product in the first place that would make you contact them. Personally I just build my own pc and resort to the warranty of individual components or take it on the chin and pay for the replacement and fix the problem myself. So far that has been far less of a headache and cheaper overall than my experiences with pc manufacturers/resellers. If you are going to buy a pc from a company I think you are better off not risking giving all that money to a company without knowing what they are like in handling problems that may occur. It certainly seems like a lot of extended warranties aren't worth the paper they're written on.
My advice is don't rely on just how good the product is as that is only part of what you are paying for, have a look around for people who have had problems with specific companies' products and see how happy they were with the response and outcome.

Thanks for the replies guys. My current computer is around 8yrs old and i bought it from mesh, when i first got it i had to deal with there legendary customer service because there were a few issues.. never again
I did get it running correctly mainly due to helpful friends rather than mesh, i would advise anyone who is willing to listen to avoid them at all costs. I will have a look at the others mentioned though.
cheers

Just to add I've used Komplett for several years, just never bought a PC from them before and I've never heard bad things about them. I would never pay for any extended warranty on a PC as I can fix most things myself, in a couple of years time there probably won't be many of the original bits left in it anyway. I did consider building my own but it's hard to do it cheaper than companies can supply them readybuilt.

I looked on the net for mesh reviews last year and they were pretty grim, i used Dell and have had no complaints, this is my second one, i got a laptop for my son 2 years ago and he thinks its great.

I've had one of this companys pcs now for over a year - excellent build quality, branded components, built to your own specification at an unbelievably reasonable price. Customer service and tech support 2nd to non - local rate number. In fact just had a self inflicted problem out of warranty which they were able to sort out over the 'phone.
Delivery times can be a little prolonged depending on workload.
