Question:
Following my phone call to NTL yesterday, I thought I ought to make people aware. Seeing some other postings, I decided to try and get a better deal for my broadband. I'm on 2MB @ 24.99 a month and have been a customer for 2 years. I phoned, mentioned Tiscali equivalent is £17.99 and got 3MB @ £17.50 for 3 months. I explained that in 3 months I'll be in the same situation, so why should I stay? The lady explained that this is the best offer she can do at the moment - the offers change and to ring back in 3 months. So basically, if you ring every 3 months you can get the better deal all the time - the lady confirmed this with me. £17.50 for 3 MB of broadband is very good. I think it's £37 a month normally. I don't mind ringing every 3 months if I can get this sort of deal. Thought this might be useful for others.

My brother contacted me the other day and asked about - dare I say it - BULLDOG broadband. I said that I had recommended them to a colleague at work and the colleague had signed up but he is yet to hit 8meg download speed - possible exchange problem.
Anyway to cut a long story short - I signed up with bulldog and rang NTL to cancel the B/B, They asked why I was canceling and I mentioned Bulldog - they said that I could have the 3meg B/B for NOTHING for three months then a reduced rate of 29.99 for the year. I will be ringing back in 3 months to see what they can do for me again.
I then cancelled bulldog - sent 3 emails - forget trying to ring them couln`t get through - there customer service is absolutly appalling!! worse then NTL`s
BTW - I was on 2meg for 12.50 for 6month!!

I have just spoken to NTL and asked for a better deal on my broadband. I stated that I have been a customer for about 3 years and I'm out of contract. I'm currently on the 1mb package for £17.99. I asked if was possible to have the discount that new customers were getting offered on their website which is £9.99 for 1mb for 1 year. To my surprise they did it no questions asked!

Just got off the phone to NTL, currently I have unlimited 2Mb broadband @ 17.99 per month, phone and family package tv at 46.00 per month. Told them I wanted to cancel all three because there are much better deals out there. Instantly I was offered broadband for 9.99 for 12 months AND they have reduced the cost of my tv and phone package to 36.00 per month for 12 months!! Woohooo. Are you still reading this? What are you waiting for? If you are an NTL customer dial 150 now and start haggling!

Made my phone call to NTL today and am now getting the following
4mb broadband @ 12.49 (Been half price for ages)
Talk Weekend phone @ 11.00
Family pack TV at £11.00 (Half price as I have BB and phone)
and the icing on the cake is the new TVDrive HD PVR box at £10
A total of £44.49 per month.
They have basically increased my bill by £21 to include TVDrive and package so I now have the equivalent of Sky+ and HD included at the same price as my old Sky Family package on the slow old sky box.

Your comment about ntl HD is very interesting. Is this now available on a nationwide basis?

It is certainly available in the Luton area. Give them a call. I was told they are releasing it one box per house and testing the system to see how well it copes. Boxes are limited though. Also not advertised yet as at the moment only BBC HD demo channel is available and no video on demand. Apparently a software update is due in feb which should sort things.

I am in the same boat as you and rang then tonight. I have been given 6 months at £10 a month and have been told to ring back in 6 months and they will extend it for another 6 months at £10!

I only have broadband from NTL (£24.99 a month package), but have been with them for about 7/8 years now, do you reckon they'd give me a reduction if I phoned up?

do your homework first then give customer services a ring, tell them that as you are out of contract there seem to be better deals out there. or do as I did mention the special offer they have for their new customers which is £9.99 for 1meg broadband for a year. they should oblige as they dont want to lose customers. good luck.

Hi all, I am using family pack and telephone (which I never use!) for £30.50 pm but have recently got it reduced by approx £10 for 6 months. I now need broadband and the guy at ntl said the £9.99 for 2Mb pm on 12month contract was the best available. However, Jocketuk are you sure that there is FREE 1Mb b/b for 1 yr and do you think I would be eligible? Cheers Steve

I phone Telewest earleir this week to let them know i was not that happy about the amount I was paying for their service:
Phone £11
Call reject £1.75
Caller ID display £1.75
TV essential package £11.50
Broadband 4MB £25
--------------------
total £51
I was directly offered everything for £43 ie a reduction of £8. That's a start. I obviously asked for more but didn't manage any better. I said I'll ring back in a few days once I have look around at the competetitors.
Rang back today to say I wanted more, however I faced a wall, what ever my argument (customer loyalty, other offers...). I was told I was given the 3 for £40 (phone £10.50, TV £10.50, b/b £18) a reduction of £7.5 and 50p discount on my phone options, total £43. They would only give me more discount if I reduced my broadband package to 2MB.
Aftre 5min of arguing, I started saying that I might have to cancel in those condition and that didn't seem to bother my interlocutor. I will ring back at the end of the week end to speak to someelse.
I think it really depends who you're speaking to in the phone, The 1st one was nice and I should have insisted the first day (but I'm chicken on the phone, not use to). Hopefully I 'll have more conprehensible person next time.

I have been watching this thread and similar ones with interest.....
I have also been with ntl for a good few years and am currently on their 2mb broadband package. Surely I'm right in saying though, that if people elected to upgrade from their old 750k package to their 2mb package (presumably the same with other upgrades?), ntl in effect made people sign up a a further 12 month minimum contract period?

I upgraded from 750k to 2Mb and they didn't mention this or ask me to sign anything, and I've just checked their T&C's and it doesn't mention anything about it there either. As a lot of people were upgraded automatically, without them having to contact NTL, I'd be surprised if this counted as a "new" contract.

i agree, its an upgrade not a new contract.

I was in almost exactly the same position and it worked for me. Just quote the Tiscali price and they will give you a deal. There was no debate or anything when I phoned - she just gave me a cheaper price for the 2mb. I said how about the 3 mb and got that for 17.50. I started the conversation by saying I was thinking of leaving NTL as I'd seen a better offer...

I done that too last August, have had to phone EVERY month since then as they still try to charge £17.99 each month, and am promised it will be corrected for the following month. Each month is the same, still get billed £17.99, phone up, explain the situation again and again. End up paying £9.99 a month but it really annoys me they can't get the bill correct (saying that, the web access has been just fine - touch wood).

Most definately... See my last post to see how I started the conversation.
