Question:
is it normal for diigtal camera batteries to go flat so quickly???
i am finding after just a few shots (approx5-10) my batteries are flat.
the picture quality is brilliant.
any tips or ideas or should i take it back to the shop.
its a concorde 4060af.
cheers
Answers:
No.
Batteries should last a lot longer than that, but life will depend on how long the camera spends powered up but on standby, how much use of flash, etc.
But 5-10 shots is ridiculous. Take it back.
Answers:
Are we talking normal batteries or rechargeables and in either case what capacities?
If it's of interest steves digicams review stated the following for the model:
"The 4060 AF's battery life was acceptable during our tests. Using a pair of AA NiMH 2200 mAh rechargeable batteries, we were able to capture over 100 images with the LCD on before a low battery warning occurred. We always recommend using NiMH batteries when possible, and you should have several charged pairs on hand. "
Answers:
Check the type of battery are you using. There are 2 main types of batteries you can use in digital cameras, NI-CD and NI-MH.
NI-CD will drain very quickly when used in a digital camera.
NI-MH are far more suited to digital cameras and should last for ages. You should always use NI-MH in your camera.
I have 2 sets of rechargable NI-MH for my camera (Canon Powershot), which I charged and took on a 2 week holiday recently, but I only used 1 set during the holiday. And I took well over 200 photos.
5-10 photos still seems an awfully small number even if you were using the wrong type of batteries. Sounds like the camera could be faulty.
Answers:
Agree absolutely - always use Ni-Mh rechargeables - with the highest mAh available. They're getting better all the time. Look for at least 2000+ mAh for the AA size. I'd try these before taking it back.
Keeping the little display monitor on, if you have one, and playing back your pics - as we all do when the camera is new and we're showing off the pics to all and sundry! - will guzzle ordinary battery life too. Don't use the display if you don't need to, or at least until you get rechargeables after which it won't be an issue.
