DAB QUERY

Question:
I recently bought a DAB enabled Hi-Fi.
Whilst I find listening to stations usually on MW (such as Five Live) much improved on DAB, I am not gaining the same sort of pleasure from stations usually found on the FM frequency. It seems to lack an 'ooomph' on DAB and I also notice that a number of music stations on DAB are broadcsating in 64-112kbs mono - so my question is are these things which can be improved with an arial upgrade - i.e. More kick and getting a higher bitrate and stereo quality sound on the stations which come up as broadcasting as mono and on a low bitrate?
Many thx in advance!

Answers:
There is a lot of audio compression technology going on, Radio 4 claim not to use it and their output can appear muted when compared to the other channels. There are sites that claim that our DAB is the worst for bandwidth in the world.

The radio over Freeview is not too shabby but I have no idea if it is any better or worse than DAB,

Having a good aerial is important, but aslong as you have a reasonably good signal, the only distortion will come from the low bit rates used.
Five Live on DAB has no processing whatsoever apart from whatever compression is being used on the studio desk.
