Question:
Is there any way of burning dvds from the pc so they are playable on the playstation? I have my playstation hooked up to watch dvds and i dont always wanna come downstairs to watch films...
Tips and guidance to a newbie - much appreciated.

Not quite sure what your exact question is. The playstation 2 can play DVDs natively, and should play any that you make on your PC using a DVD writer.

When i burned a movie onto disc using Windows media player it told me the burn was successful. However when i put it in the playstation it said i need to put a playstation compatable disc in...what have i done wrong?
Just thought this may be what i am doing wrong - the discs im trying to burn to sat CD-R so *blonde moment* does that mean it can only play Audio sounds...Would i need DVD-R, or DVD disc (written on cd)

What type of disc are you using (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW etc)?
Is it an old/new PS1 or PS2?
Answers:
The disc says CD-R and it is a playstation 2. Thing is i am sooo clueless about burning. I use the CD-R when making a music CD and im guessing im using the wrong disks for a movie...

Once you have posted this we will be able to assist better! I renamed them once i stored them on the PC but i do know they were Avi files (Told me this as i was downloading).
Yes i would like to transfer from my PC to a disk. Reason is so i can watch them on the playstation 2 in my bedroom.

if its a movie file you have donwloaded etc etc then you will have to convert the said file from xvid, divx, avi, mpeg etc to a dvd file (namely VOB) then burn it using some software as nero or clone dvd.
Answers:
I would guess that if it's a full movie on a CD, it will likely be DivX (.AVI)

Ok so if its just a case of converting my AVI files to DVD then how do i go about this? Bearing in mind the disc im using Says CD-R

is the movie on one file or is the film split into two halves? if its one file for one film then like i said above you need converting software which will take about 1 to 3 hours depending on software and pc performance then you need to get burning software to create your dvd.

Its just one file, lasts no longer than an hour. Ok so now for Converting software. Can you suggest a good one to use or one that is rather easy to use?

First of all you have to convert the avi to mpg (PS2 cannot read avi without hacks).
If the file was an avi and is no more than 700mb in size you can use Nero burning software to create a vcd (the option is there in nero wizard) and you can burn to a cd r which is playable on your ps2.
However, if it is over 700mb you will either need to split it down (again another piece of software is required) or you will have to convert the avi to mpg and then 'build' a DVD (again another piece of software is required).
When i get an avi file i do the following:
Tmpgenc (convert to mpg).
Tmpgenc DVD author (allows you to add mpg files to dvd with menus etc you can normally get about 4 movies to 1 x dvd).
Then burn to DVD and this will play in your PS2.
As warned use Ritek discs, i find G05's work very well for my ps2.
