Question:
I have a Gainward Golden Sample 5900XT 128. Which up until I bought FEAR today was great, use EXpertool to OC the core to 450 and the memory clock to 780. (standard settings are 390 and 700 respectively)
FEAR runs terrible, evenin 800x600 constant lags and most graphics settings are on minimum/medium.
I need an AGP card, what to get>??
Thinking 6800 GT or Ultra which is better?
My pc is AthlonXP 3ghz. 1024 DDr ram. After upgrading it last year to run Farcry do not want to do it again
Would the above graphics card be your choice?I want Nvidia.
Anyone know benchmark wise how the 6800's compare to the 5900XT overclocked?
Many thanks Paul

The Ultra model is obviously better (if by better you mean faster), but it is more expensive, takes up more space inside your PC, runs hotter and requires more power. Consequently, the 6800GT is usually considered the better choice, and can often be overclocked to Ultra levels (or so I've heard) anyway.
Either would probably beat the 5900XT into the ground - figuratively speaking - due to the card's poor performance when running applications that make heavy use of DirectX9 vertex and pixel shaders.
From :
Disputes over the pricing of the NV2A (which was later settled by arbitration) led to Microsoft witholding the specifications for 9.0, and this was responsible for the GeForce FX's poor shader performance.

Near the end of its life, the GeForce FX series became notorious for poor performance with DirectX 9 Vertex & Pixel shaders, leading to it suffering significant defeats in newer games and leading to the infamous early release of benchmarks which showed the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra performing about as fast as a Radeon 9600 (which generally only cost around a third as much as a 5900 Ultra). When the game was released, Valve forced DirectX 8 shaders on GeForce FX hardware.
