Good idea to create a separate thread - was taking me ages to re-read to find out the various info. Anyway, being new to a pda/sat nav, and obviously not as technologically advanced as most people, I am still a bit confused with the various versions / upgrades available. I have the Medion MDPPC 150 (MD 95459) with Medion Navigator version 4.4. What upgrades (if any) should I be making to this to enhance my sat nav experience? I've seen various comments regarding installing poi-warner, and from looking at their web site, they do have a version to work with Navigator 4 and above. However, I've also read that people have installed Tom Tom 5 on their pda - is this better than Navigator 4 and/or does poi-warner with Navigator 4 pretty much do the same thing as Tom Tom 5 or do Tom Tom 5 users also use poi-warner?
Any information re the above would be greatly appreciated.

For starters I would recommend getting v5 of the Medion Navigator. I'm sure it should be a free udpate, but if you're stuck then I don't think it would be against forum rules for a kind reader to email you the upgrade.
I am talking with Navigon (the makers of the navigation software) about
upgrading to 5.1 (v5.2 requires Windows Mobile 5.0).

TomTom 5 has built in POI warning so does not require a seperate application.
I'd be very interested to hear from anyone that has tried to upgrade the OS on the PDA to Windows Mobile 5.0

I've just bought a SD WiFi card from eBay for £27.99 inc. delivery (see the related Grabbit thread to see the auction listing) Should arrive today, I will post my findings later!
To use SatNav you'll need to swap memory cards. I recommend getting a leather case/wallet for the PDA that has SD card holders to make it simpler. It's unlikely you'll want to use Wi-Fi in the car whilst driving so I'm not too bothered about having to swap.
I would have liked to have been able to get the combined Wi-Fi and 256Mb SD card but Sandisk no longer manufacturer it.

It would be nice to be able to use the Sat Nav to mark POI's for WiFi hotspots

I have the Medion with Navigator 4.4 and POI-Warner installed, I was going to play around with TomTom but I have heard that the Navigator maps are better, the only reason I can see to change to TomTom would be the ability to change the voices.
People also claim to have Navigator 5 on thiers, I am interested to know if they picked up a micromaxx one as apposed to a medion one.

I've got the micromaxx and it has navigator 5.
Having read through the posts it seems that it's a great piece of kit, but in order to get speed camera poi we need navigator 5.1 and that costs 79 euros is that correct.
Has anyone found the speed camera stuff and european maps, please.

I posted the very same question over on the pocketgps site....and was was recommended this site :
There is a link off to POI Warner site - have a look round there - plenty to read (still doing it myself) - looks as if there is different versions for Navigator 4 and 5.........

Just had this response from the POI-Warner support team regarding compatability with medion navigator 5.0.
"Actually you are right by a failure of Medion the Medion Navigator Version 5.0 is not supported by the POI-Warner , you will need some version above or an version 1-3.x or 4.x.
Actually I do not know any page where to download the medion Navigator 5.0-5.1 or 5.2 update medion actually said that there is no update , please ask them .
I`m very sorry to give you such a bad answer, please excuse me .
POI`s are fully compatible with the Medion Navigator 5.0 you can use them I think in the Medion Navigator but our great software will not run and can`t warn you and you can´t manage them .
For viewing POI´s and receiving them please ask our partners at (info@poihandler.com)
If you have any open questions please let me know , and we will properly find a solution."
Have sent a mail back asking if they intend to produce a compatible version some time in the future. I'll let you all know.

How to upgrade from v5 to v5.1
just call or go to , select your language and then "Shop", here you can find on the left side the "Upgrade" button. Follow the instructions (select the navigation software you have and
the device) and you will be presented with all the choices to upgrade. After ordering you will receive an email. Print out this email and (as said in the email) put it together with your CDs in an envelope and send it to the address (as stated in the email). Once it arrives in Würzburg, we send off the new software.
I will try and send mine off this week.. Lets see what happens

The web site does not allow me to select my current software - there are no products in the drop down box. Does this work for other people?
The website also says the price is from 79 euros. Don't fancy paying that for an upgrade from 5 to 5.1 that should really be free - at least I believe it is free for users of the non OEM version. I assume it includes minor fixes rather than a major upgrade. Have you been given any pricing info Steve?
While I'm typing, would someone check something out in Medion Navigator 5.0 for me?
1. Go to settings and change user mode to extended, save.
2. select navigation, point of interest, nationwide. category
How many categorys do you have? I only have 8 but if I select 'point of interest', then select a specific town, I have loads more. I could understand having less categorys in a specific place as I would be limited to the points of interest in an x mile radius. Am I missing something or is this a bug?
Now, do the following.
1. With user mode still set to extended
2. select navigation, point of interest, nationwide. point of interest.
Page down and look at the points of interest, they're all in foreign mate, or is it just my PDA or have I got too little sleep?

I only have Firefox here at the moment and I get the same problem. I will email them and ask them to sort it out

I asked for prices and their reply was as per my previous post. I presume after sending off the OEM CDs to them they will send you the update free of charge

Thanks for the upgrade info PompeySteve.
There were no PDA's near me but I managed to get one reserved yesterday for my dad to pick up...now all I have to do is wait for him to get it to me!
It was a Micromaxx and now I'm wondering what the difference between the various models is and which one was the best to get. Anyone know?
Answers:
AFAIK (aside from a post yesterday claiming that a Somerfield store at Mio 268s), they are all identical units.
Micromaxx PD95459 = Medion MDPPC150 = Mio 168

Software update from MobileNavigator|5.0 to MobileNavigator|5.1
Windows Mobile 2003
Answers:
Unfortunately Shaun, the upgrade requires you to have registered your Navigator software and have an activation code. To register, you need the serial number of the software - which Medion kindly do NOT provide in the box - hence the convoluted upgrade procedure!

I didnt get on with the Navigator software found it ran very slow through menus and route finding , now got Tom Tom and it is loads faster and got a little program called POI Edit installed on my PC i fire it up and then get loads of POI's very easy to use and can auto update as well, got all the speed camera and mobile speed camera locations
If anybody wants any help give me a shout.
