my computer crashed last week any ideas,am on laptop at moment having a problem with writing this message if i stop writing this is what happens it writes gobbledegook by itself.

im not understanding what you mean by crash though, did it freeze up and you had to reboot?

i was on it in morning worked fine went out came back the screen was black couldnt turn it of , now laptop which is linked to computer has a mind of its own and is typing its own messages which dont make sense.this is what happens if i dont type.we were hit by lightning in july which fried network and modem but computer wasnt on at the time and we got the bits replaced for free but since then it has been running slow then as i said it just went black and couldnt turn it on or off and now network to laptop seems to be affected. surely if had been hit it would have gone before now.

sorry for sounding confused it is just you mention another pc in there somewhere also.
if it is the laptop monitor that wont work it could be as simple as the graphics card has become loose to the monitor being shot.
check to make sure one of the keys hasnt jammed, the other guess is that when you say it types jibberish it is coming up as symbols?

no what i mean sorry had some port not making sense.
main computer was on then the screen went black and we couldnt turn it of it has completely died cant do nothing with it at all. would it be a virus or has the motherboard and harddrive gone.the harddrive dosent kick into windows.

Have you tried turning it off at the wall (power socket), or holding the power button down for 6 seconds? What brand of port are you drinking, must try some!

so your desk top pc monitor has stopped working? and you cant turn it off?
and you get no power when you turn it on?
im guessing you meen it just aint working anymore, how many times does the desk top pc beep when you turn it on?
the amount of beeps or length of beep will let you know what is wrong, abit like r2d2 in starwars.
by the sound of it, your graphics card may have bust, this would effect your monitor and also obviously stop anything from showing.
first thing is to tell us how many beeps your pc does at you.
also now you are sober, check to see if the power chord was plugged into the wall and attached to the pc.
