Best ISP

Question:
Having lots of problems with NTL. Intermittent service. After six months of complaining someone is supposed to be coming to cheeck out my set top box today. I'm seriously thinking of sacking NTL. However, I notice that people are having problems with other companies such as Tiscali. Can anyone recommend a good ISP provider?
Thanks and a Merry Christmas to all at MSE
Answers:
are probably the top ISP for broadband in the UK at the moment. Check the comparison table at they are not beaten by any other company in any of the categories (speed, reliability, and customer service). They have also just won the ISP of the year at PCPro for the second year on the trot.
They offer. One month minimum contract, no limits (at all), no traffic shaping (at all), up to 8 static IP addresses for free, 1GB of web space for free. They also run their own newsgroups which you can access free as part of the package.
This company is not the cheapest broadband supplier, but for anyone that wants absolute hassle free broadband, good service, and no limits at all no matter what you download. You wont go wrong with this company.

If you visit , you can pick which ISPs to compare and it shows you how they rate for Speed, Reliability and Customer Service. This information has been collected from customers of that ISP. It would be highly useful for choosing between a shortlist of providers. tigermatt

No point debating best ISP here as does all that! However it may be worth comparing ISP such as Zen and F2S.

NewNet is excellent and VERY competitively priced.
I've been with them since the beginning of the year and have found them to be very reliable. Their customer service is also first class.

Cheers Fran and thanks to all for your help. The NTL man came today to check out set top box. There was a loose cable which was why it kept going off. OK at the moment, I'll see how it goes. How did we manage before we had internet?. I'm planning my hols on line. I've got my recipes online, got pressies, online, checked the train times as well as wishing friends all over the world Merry Xmas.

I am with and have a 2.2Mbit connection for £19.99 a month and 10 GB limit. But between 1am and 6am its unlimited. So you can download for free between these times.
I have never had any problems. I am very happy with the service.
They now do 8Mbit for £14.99 if your line will take it.

Am currently surfing on my Be* wireless connection and am showing a speed of 36 Mbs !!! Its 24/month which includes the wireless router. The speed you've quoted is impossible. There is not one single ISP in the UK offering these kind of speeds yet (including Be*). The fastest service out there (and what Be* is offering also) is up to 24Mbps. The average internet speeds with these type of services comes in around 15Mb/18Mb, this type of service is also VERY dependent on the distance to he exchange.
I would say the speed you are seeing is your wireless network speed (certainly not your internet speed). This would be far more feasable.
