DABS wireless setup

Question:
I was wondering if £50 was good for this Buffalo Wireless Router & USB Adaptor
I am going to be setting up a wireless network in which the main desktop computer will be connected to this and the incoming broadband line and the USB is for a laptop i wish to use around the house. Will i need a wireless PCI card for the main PC if it is attached to the router?
Will this setup work for this purpose or am i reading it wrong?
cheers

If you are planning to put the router near your main computer, you will be able to connect the router to the main PC via a cable. However, from what I can see, the Buffalo router doesn't have an Ethernet port for plugging in the cable, so you would need something with wireless and wired connections. I tend to use Netgear products and have only ever had a problem with them once, and their support line was very good.
Further to the main PC and router question, you will need a wireless PCI adaptor if your router is placed away from the main PC, or if you decide to go for this router which I don't think supports wired connections.
I hope this helps, tigermatt

I have almost exactly the same setup with the somewhat older Buffalo router but the same USB wireless adapter (note that the two photos are completely out of proportion!). You want an ethernet patch cable to connect the PC into the router, and the USB adapter goes into the laptop. It should work well provided you don't have great thicknesses of wall/floor/ceiling/water tanks along the line-of-sight from the router to wherever you want to put the laptop.
Their AOSS system does a good job of easily setting up WPA2/AES on the laptop, that being the best available security you can get!
