Question:
Hi all
I'm thinking of getting my husband wintv for Christmas. I'm quite clueless as to what I'm looking for and would really appreciate some help.
I would like him to be able to watch the World Cup next year when he's at work and perhaps be able to bung video clips onto DVD.
Could anyone suggest which/where to purchase?
Many thanks in advance.

To watch television on a desktop or laptop PC you'll need a of some sort. There are various means of adding such functionality to a computer, but by far the simplest to install is a device.
Generally, such devices are limited to receiving either analogue or digital broadcasts respectively, but some are capable of both. One such gadget is the , which is little bigger than one's own thumb. Y'can currently for the princely sum of £88.31.

I've got WinTV2000 on a card. This is both a digital and analogue tuner + an fm radio. You can record straight to your hard drive and take screen snapshots etc. I very rarely watch the TV but the digital radio is excellent. Unfortunately it is DVB radio which is different from DAB radio so no Planet Rock (sob sob). TV in a small window on one of my 2 TFT monitors is excellent & great way to have TV on but not intrusive.
Remember you do need an arial to pick up the signal though.
Maplin Electronics are a good supplier and their staff are really knowledgeable.

I ordered the Cinergy XS Hybrid USB model from for around £65 including delivery but when it arrived today it seemed to be an old or foreign version - there was no remote control or S-video/composite video input, nor were they listed on the box or accompanying bumph.
Komplett say they will give me a full refund and I'm awaiting instructions about how to send the incorrect product back but I just wanted to make people aware that there may be more than one version of the XS model on the market, whatever the descriptions on retailers' websites say.
I've now ordered from CCL. Slightly more expensive and it's unlikely to arrive before the weekend but hey, it was only a present for myself anyway and at least it'll be the right thing (here's hoping!).
