Question:
My sister has got Dad to make a cd with music on it for her. The cd will play on her laptop but not in an ordinary cd player. Does anyone know why? I should point out that she is a teacher and it is for the Christmas play at school. I don't want the Christmas play to go wrong!!
Any suggestions?
Answers:
Most likely reason is that the cd player doesn't recognise the format the music has been copied in, I think.
There are a number of older models that wont play copied cds at all, some wont play depending on what format the music is in eg mp3/wma etc.
Sometimes it comes down to what kind of blank disc is used, but I would think it's more likely to be the format. That's why the lappy can play the cd, it recognises the files.

THANKS for your help! Will tell her!

Cheack if the CD is a re-writable one (CD RW) becuase those disks cannot be read on some normal CD players. The most compatable is a CDR - one that you can only write once to.

I remember seeing the cd in Mums & Dads and it was a CDR but I will check with her when I phone her.

It is a cdr she is using so how can she get the cd player to play the songs?
Answers:
She probably can't.
It sounds as though it is just one of those players that wont read copies.

Will tell her that maybe if she tried a different cd player it would work!
Answers:
When the disk is in the laptop, go into explorer and check what the files are called.
If they have proper names instead of track01 etc then then disk has probably been burn't as a data disk and not and audio disk. It needs to be an audio disk for most normal Cd players to read it.
Answers:
Try the disk in a DVD player if she has one or a Playstation, if it plays
in there but not the CD HiFi Player, well I reckon its the Player.

If the CD-R was created using a piece of software like Roxio's Easy CD Creator, then make sure that the CD-R has been finalised.
An unfinalised CD will only play on a computer or laptop, but not on a normal CD player. This is because, while it is unfinalised, you can still add or edit the tracks on the CD. Finalising the CD will complete the CD burning process and will enable it to be played on normal CD players.

It was created using cubabase(sp?) as far as I know!
