Question:
I have AOL braodband 'silver' which is great. However my phone socket is at the opposite end of the house, so i have a cable running the length of the house. I have been told I can get a cordless 'router' with a USB connecter which transmits the info 'wirelessly', I popped into PC world and they said it could be done with this router he showed me, but it was £90 ouch. Its more fun and cheaper to keep watching the mrs trip over it every day but her patience is wearing thin. Are there any other options, I even got a bloke out to price up moving the external phone cable round the back of the house but its a BT only job which I assume would cost a fortune. Any feedback would be gratefully received

he could fit a wired external phone extension
or you could do it yourself for about a tenner and a few hours work

thats what i thought, but he came out but said only BT are allowed to do it as it is extending their cable that comes from the lamp post. never mind ........ might shop
round for a router whatsit tomorrow !

It sounds that you don't really need a wireless router at all. Just install (or get someone else to install) a properly installed extension to the rear of your house rather than a trailing lead. You don't need to touch the BT side of the wiring, and the extension could take any route, externally or internally to the back of your property.

Thanx for your advice chaps. I may try another electrician as the last one obviusly didnt know what he was on about. Will pop down to the DIY shop and see if can do that myself or if not call out another electrician/phone bloke, thanks again for your time & advice

Check their web price, sometimes £40 cheaper than in the shop . DG834G
