Question:
Hi all, i installed a new dvd burner a few months ago ... all was well untill this past week or so now media player will not recognise the drive and therefore wont burn to it?
I had a look to see if any cables were loose and after i put it back together the computer now recognises it as a dvd ram drive and not r/rw?
Any ideas

Did you mean DVD ROM drive, not RAM drive? Anyway, I guess first thing to know is what has changed in your system since it went wrong (any windoze updates, new drivers etc)?
Failing that, and what I would do, is uninstall the hardware (right-click My Computer->Hardware->Device manage, then locate and uninstall) and let the wizard pick it up again. Get it to install the drivers you received with the hardware again (if there were any) and hopefully things'll be put right.
