Question:
I've no idea what happened. I was copying some photos to a disc when the whole computer locked up. The only thing I could do was turn it off. It all came back on properly but now I ca't open any programs. I can't even system restore. Luckily the only thing I can do is connect to the internet and use OH computer on LAN upstairs.
Anybody know what I've done and how it can be sorted?

Is the disk still in the computer? What messages are you getting or what's on the screen when you start up?

Have you XP
Shut down ad restart again, this time do it properly, also run a virus check
in safe mode tap F8 on startup, also run defrag Start, allprograms, accessories,
systaem tools, disk defragmenmter.
And the nrun a scandisk aswell
Double-click My computer on the Desktop (or Start, My Computer), select drive, File, Properties, Tools, Check Now..., Select Options, Start.

hi Fran, starts up fine, no messages. desktop showing. disk not in computer. on trying to open a program, egg timer shows but disappears without opening program

yes using xp will go and try that now Mr Skint. It'll keep me fit running up and down the stairs
