Question:
Hope some of the experts on here can help. For some reason I can't get any sound from my PC. I have installed a new sound card (not sure if there was anything wrong with the old one, but couldn't get sound!), that worked for about a day, then stopped. I then bought new speakers just in case but still no joy. I have tested the speakers from the control panel and they appear to be active, but still not a peep.
Any ideas?

Start, Control Panel, Sounds Speech and Audio Devices, Sound and Audio Devices, Voice Tab, Test Hardware, make sure you uninstalled the old drivers, check the speaker volume is up, try the icon by the PCs clock...

Thanks for that but the hardwear test seems to be looking for recording devices to test, but I don't have a microphone installed, so still can't get any sound!

same place as above but click on Performance and Maintenance
then "System"
then "hardware" tab
click on device look down the list for Sound, videoand game controllers
click on the + to expand and there should be an exclamation mark or a red cross against anything thats not working

Is it posible that something unplugged 'itself' in the tower?

Unbelievably after checking no, I wasn't!! In my defence, I can only assume some of the advice you guys gave did make a difference and as I was moving the tower round, the jack became unplugged (doh!!)
