they are one of the big cheap vendors. I used web-mania.co.uk which offer a little less but for a fixed £20 a year.
It depends what you want them for. If you want 99.8% availability all year round and a fast access you are unlikely to get that for that price. You get what you pay for in web hosting.
That said I am with jamroll.co.uk which is completely free and again offering only slightly less than 1&1.
In sum, if its a casual site, one of the three is fine but if you want something hosted which is important like a business site, then I do not recommend them.

try webfusion or 123 reg...they offer good packages, im with webfusion for a business site but 123 is great for home ones..hosting from 1.59 p month..great value and great server

1&1 is slightly more expensive then the rest. but they have been totally amazing! no downtime, i got 6months free, and i get excellent features and a good price. again, if you pay little you get little, i pay the little extra, goes a long way for me. never ever had any downtime, very generous with bandwidth and space, and available to speak to anyone anytime of the day.

ive got 4 websites with one and one, never had any downtime or anything, Customer support isnt one of the best but it isnt bad, however there domains are the cheapest around.
Personally i would go with dataflame.co.uk.
