There are also ways to make your DVD player "region-free" without downloading any software. This usually involves pressing a combination of different buttons on your remote control on certain menu screens
If someone hypothetically wanted to do this, they could hypothetically type the name of their DVD player, plus "region free crack" into Google and see what results they got. This would lead to sites providing the necessary information
All hypothetically of course...

Was saying hypothetically coz I assume if anyone did this in practice it may be slightly...erm..."less than legal"!! Don't think so. The manufacturers have to sell the players with region encoding, but there is no law about you or me or the shops making them multi-region (hence the large number of shop selling multi-region players).
Most manufacturers leak their own hacks as they want people to know they can hack their players to increase sales.

If he's talking about his Computer DVD Drive, then it cannot be unlocked without flashing some modified firmware or using software!
However, if it's a Standalone DVD Player connected to the TV, then yes tap a few numbers in to access usually 'secret' region menus!
