Car Head Unit

Question:
Hi guys, I want to buy my hubby a new head unit for his car as his no longer works. It would need to be able to play mp3s and a DAB radio would be nice, but not essential.
I know absolutely nothing about these sorts of things, but I don't wnat to ruin the suprise. He's a bit of a Sony fan, but I know they're not always the best for things. I don't have a budget as such, however I'm not the richest of people if you get my hint!! Thanks in advance

good luck

Thank you for that. I'll check it out.
Can anyone else help?
Answers:
Try Ebay. I bought my Kenwood head unit from an Ebay shop and it was boxed, brand new and warranted and less than half the RRP. Didn't even have to bid for it as it was Buy It Now and it even came next day. The seller I used only has one Sony unit and can't tell if its MP3 or not - not mentioned in the listing so I guess not.

it depends where you live, i went to a 'specialist' place in birmingham, bass junkies or something, they were 1st class, got a sony, mp3 compatible cd player head unit installed ( my car still had old manufacturers tape player in it at the time) and the plastic frontage that sits around the head unit to make it the right size for £130 all in. at the time the sony unit was £180 in halfords and the frontage was £20 +. plus the install at £40.
i have hidden the remote control, the other half would only try and over ride what i was listening to.
try one f those 'specialsts' if you are not sure which one to get, you can listen to it in the shop and someone will explain it all to you and tell you if you need to do anything extra. then go home and try and get the stereo cheaper online if you think they are too much.

bass junkies is on the coventry road going out of the city centre, it is on the left hand side going towards coventry, about 1 mile out from the city centre ( of birmingham). they really were good and very helpful.
