Question:
Hey hey!
Basically I start uni in 2 weeks and am REALLY worried that I won't be able to get up early after a late night out.
There are 2 ways to resolve this. Never have a late night out (not an option at Uni).. or buy a suitable alarm clock. However, I have slept thru MANY phone alarms in the past and am rather unsure about whats a "loud enough" alarm clock.
So i need the money saving experts personal opinion on What alarm clock? It may have radio in built as I like a good old listen to radio 1... but primarily it will be used as a loud alarm which WILL wake me up in a morning.
Thanks for ur help

Usually radio alarm clocks have an adjustable volume so you can set it to however loud you need it to get your a*se out of bed in the morning.
Be careful though, I remember the walls being very thin in my halls at uni, so if you have it really really loud then you might incur the wrath of your neighbours!!!

My phone alarm just keeps going every 10 minutes if I don't switch it off. Keeping it the other side of the bedroom sort of helps.
But as rachyerbs says, beware of thin walls. I was with my Uni friends the other day (it's a long time ago now ...) and one of them remembers chatting to the chap on the floor below him and saying how he had to keep his alarm clock the far side of the room, and the response was "Yes, I know ..."

I have heard there's an alarm which will 'roll away and hide' if you don't switch it off properly, which requires being fairly awake. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

This may sound silly but give it a try....whatever time you need to wake up bang your head on the pillow for the requisite no of hours e.g.8am = 8 bangs on the pillow. Not to be recommended INSTEAD of an alarm but it does work and it sounds like you might need a backup...
Try it, I'm sure you'll be surprised.

Secret Lady,
I agree with you, it does sound daft, but for some reason that usually works for me.
As a back up though, I usually use the alarm on my mobile phone and put it on the other side of the room so that I have to get up to switch it off.........If you don't think that will do the job, set it to vibrate and put it into a biscuit tin!
If it's really really important that I get up, I also use bt's reminder call service (*55*).........not exactly Here as they charge for it, but well worth it if I don't miss something really important.

I'll give that a try Secret Lady. But for a 9am important lecture, I'd also rather have good old electronical backup
My other option is use a computer alarm with the surround sound on full blast.
Now that will !!!! off the neighbours

Hi,
I know you said you have tried your phone but I use mine and it can be set very very loud! I am a student nurse and have to get up for early shifts and rely on it with no problem at all.

I bought a boring white LORUS alarm clock, about £10. Got a really loud alarm. I asked to hear it in the shop before I bought it. it has a snooze function as well. Good luck at Uni.

Tesco instore have a "value" electric radio alarm for £3.49 I think. Bought one but haven't tried it yet.
