Cheapest laptops??

Question:

Is this the cheapest / best deal?
I need a laptop, dont want complete rubbish but as an owner of two reasonable PCs at home I dont need anything like top of the range either.
What do you think?

12gb memory is not alot.

Yes, but if you look at others in that price range, they are usually much less than that, and usually only Win 98!!
So, with that in mind, is it a good deal, or are there better ones?? I soooo hate it when you commit yourself only to find there are better deals later!!

There was a £350 laptop mentioned recently on one of these boards which was 2.4GHz or similar. I wouldn't recommend this

Jazz I meant the one you found, although if you read the thread you'll see I wouldn't recommend the other one either. So, I suppose it was a pointless post - but any way the point is there. If you gan get a 2.6GHz laptop for £350 then that surley indicated there must be better laptops for £290 if you look hard enough

Also, it is actually £292 with VAT

Not sure why this has been moved to the techie thread? Can someone explain? Not all laptop buyers are techie heads you know!!

for £329 if you want more go
Morgancomputers usually have some decent refurbs
I'd always bugo for a brand name eg IBM or Delll when buying laptops - it increases the chances of bits being available for repair. Unlike desktops where most bits are generic laptops tend to be unique

They may be more expensive, but considering you can't just tinker around in a laptop like with a desktop it is something to consider.
When I buy a laptop (possibly January) I will almost certainly get a Dell.

You can pick up some right bargains on eBay. I bagged a relatively long in the tooth IBM Thinkpad T22 last week for £160, but the spec is fine - 900MHz Intel Smart Step processor (equivalent to 1.3 Ghz desktop), 40 GB hard drive, 128 MB ram, DVD/CD drive, Windows 98, 14 inch TFT screen. Bought another 128MB memory stick (dead easy to install) for £13, a replacement battery for £14 and a port replicator plus a carry case for another £20. All in all that's a perfect lappy for a smidge over £200 - it's very fast too, and built like a tank.
