I wanna... wireless router

Question:
Ive just managed to get my hands on a few Netgear WG111 54 Mbps Wireless USB Adapters, and so im looking to buy a wireless router so that i can share the internet access between 3 computers. What sort of price range am i looking at, and are there any offers currently on? recommendations etc... looking forward to your responses

Do you want the router to connect to ADSL or cable/ethernet? Make sure you get the right one
I've used Dlink and linksys quite a bit and have no problems with either. ebuyers own cheapies are half the price though.

Not a techie, but I just bought th BT Voyager 2100 wireless ADSL networking kit, has 4 ethernet ports so you can add other devices. It had 2 filters and a desktop and a laptop card as well, all for £99.99 from PCW.....................someone recommended it from this site but I can't remember who. There's loads of advice on the Techie Questions & Discussion board!

I got a blekin wirless router (with a 4 port built in switch) for £49.99 from PC world. !this is easy to setup, just remember to password protect it !!
I have this connected to my NTL broadband thru the network connection and it works perfect !

What about this?
would this be ok?

Answers:
it would be ok but you would only be running at 11mbs instead of 54 !! :P
This is ok for £50, if you are after 54mbs, I think this is one of the cheapest around... !???
I have shortened your link , but as you will see , PC World's links always time out , so if you post the make and model number of the item , then a search can be done for it. hth , Sheel

Answers:
I didnt even knowthe 5% discount one ;D
mind you I am a newbie
By the way if you are just after sharing the internet, the 11mbs should be Ok as I guess you dont have more than a 11mb internet feed. I
f you want to share files etc then best to go for 54MB. (remember all 3 machines will share the 54mb & not each connect at 54MB !!) - Also if you connecta machine which has an 11mbs wireless card in it - it will automatically switch to 11mb
Hope this helps ;D

Got my Belkin 54g Wireless Router from them earlier in the month, not only were they the cheapest I found for that particular wireless router, but they were also offering free delivery. Not sure if they still are though.
Item arrived next day even though I ordered at 5.30pm!

Item arrived next day even though I ordered at 5.30pm! Belkin 802.11g Wireless DSL/Cable Gateway Router, is that the one? just to make sure, does this run at 54mb?
Answers:
Quick guide.
802.11b runs at 11mb
802.11b+ runs at 22mb not common.
802.11g runs a 54mb
I use the Belkin 802.11g router, got it from Micro Direct in Manchester for £45.

[Daniel] Hi there, how can I help?
[Visitor] I have ntl cable
[Visitor] I need a fast wireless network for 3 pcs please
[Daniel] 108mb?
[Visitor] not sure
[Visitor] i need speed and value
[Visitor] for internet and network between pcs please
[Daniel] Speed and value - I'd recommend the new Linksys kit then
[Daniel] 54mb but with 'speedbooster'
[Daniel] extra 35% throughput
[Daniel] cheaper than the 108mb units but nearly as quick
[Visitor] is it g standard?
[Daniel] yep
[Daniel] enhanced G
[Daniel] is faster than standard g
[Daniel] but almost the same price
[Visitor] how much for router 1 pc is next to router the other 2 are not
[Daniel] so you need 2 wireless then
[Daniel] the one next to it has an Ethernet card installed I take it?
[Visitor] yes
[Daniel] other 2 are desktops? what OS are they running
[Visitor] win xp home
[Daniel] do they have USB 2 support?
[Visitor] only main pc but I could but a pci-usb2 card if cheap
[Daniel] the PCI wireless card will give you the extra speed but cost more
[Daniel] the USB ones require USB 2 to run at full speed, if you have USB 1 they only run upto 12mbps
[Visitor] what speed does dvd video need across a network
[Daniel] dont think you can stream DVD over a network
[Daniel] how do you intend to do this?
[Daniel] you can stream DivX
[Daniel] AVI files
[Visitor] main pc and ntl downstairs, sons pc in bedroom, further pc in loft connected to stereo to stream mp3 and maybe in future run a tivo type app. the reason I dont want to run mp3 from gf pc is pc noise, perhaps i can control pc in lft from dell axim ?
[Visitor] prob in future will need to get wireless card for axim
[Daniel] the palmtop
[Visitor] also pc in loft will have web cam connected with motion detector software recording my driveway 24hrs and gf pc can be switched off while i am at work
[Visitor] yes the palmtop (dell axim pda)
[Daniel] so the PC in the loft has to get through 2 floors to connect to the router
[Daniel] will be slow
[Visitor] I will also use vnc to see my house from work
[Daniel] even the fastest wireless will suffer when going through 2 walls
[Daniel] will be fine for internet and viewing the webcam
[Visitor] perhaps I should get a router compatible with ntl and use wires?
[Daniel] streaming music and video is ok but it really depends on the type of video
[Daniel] how much bandwidth is needed
[Visitor] not sure
[Daniel] that would certainly give you maximum speed
[Visitor] what router do u recommend?
[Daniel] streaming avi files is ok, divx and xvid for instance
[Daniel] the WRT54GS here
[Visitor] do i just plug in cable from ntl to router then cables to each machine then run network wizard on xp, will that enable internet sharing?
[Daniel] yep
[Daniel] dont even need to run the XP wizard
[Daniel] but you can if you like
[Visitor] is that the best reasonable router please?
[Daniel] yes
[Daniel] for the price it is the fastest available
[Daniel] providing you use the Linksys speedbooster cards that is
[Visitor] ok thankyou you have been a great help, shaun
[Daniel] You're welcome.
are brilliant
