I'm not sure, but arn't there limitations on trading tortoises? Make sure you look into the legal side if you havn't already
Answers:
I thought that was only on importing them? they are a pretty expensive piece of kit - c.£150 for the beastie and £100 - £150 for the vivarium.
Then there shell polish, the collar and lead etc...
Cracking present though - OH is v lucky!
Answers:
A patient of mine received a tortoise for her 50th birthday from her husband.
The legal restrictions are on IMPORTING them. They cannot be imported.
What you need to find is a breeder in this country. It is possible, but likely to be expensive.
A quick Google just found There seem to be others though.
Answers:
Our local pet shop breeds them at £175 a time- cute little critters!

collar and lead??

I had a tortoise when I was little, his name was Fred.

I knew this, cos whe I found him strolling down the road, his name was painted vividly in red on his shell.

They should've painted their phone no. too, cos I took him home, and he lived with us, cos no one answered the ads for 'found tortoise' in the local shops.

He was a very nice toroise, and he ate like ahorse. But our relationship was short lives, as he climbed over the fence and naffed off up the road; where he was doubtless found by someone else who thought
'ah Fred, pity they didn't paint his phone no.....'

Anyhoo, they're a lot of money for a critter that can climb tall fences to escape....ah now I see, collar and lead.
