Question:
I am completing the purchase of my first home next week! I don't own any household appliances etc. Can anyone recommend a good value for money company of where to buy these?
Does anyone have an opinion of whether buying online or in store is better?
Thanks

You may get a better deal with online prices but this is what we did.
When we moved into a new build house and needed new appliances (washing machine, tumble drier, fridge) we went to the well known high street stores and local stores for price comparisons. Because we were buying several 'white goods', we negotiated a good discount (all from one store) and free delivery on a date that suited us, not them.
As you are also buying several items, you might also have extra bargaining power to get a good deal.

Thanks Nile. Did you get the discount from one of the high street stores or one of the smaller local stores?
At the moment, we just need to buy a washing machine, fridge freezer, tv and some smaller items like iron, kettle etc.

We bought the items from Currys and it helped that we had price quotes from other well known chain stores as well as our local 'white goods' stores to get a good bargain. Do the leg work and you might also get a good deal.

When getting quotes always ask whether they have stock and the date that the items can be delivered. Afterall, you don't want to choose & buy a fridge freezer only for it to be delivered a few weeks later.

Who do you bank with? - I bank with Lloydstsb - on there select, gold or platinum accounts they have a number you can call quote the best price you have been offered and they try to beat it - I did this earlyer this year with a washing machine - looked online and the cheapest one I could find was a beko with tesco for £159 I called this Lloyds number and they found the same machine for £130 free delivery - I was well chuffed.

Depends on where you are and what you need, we have a powerhouse clearence shop near uddingston and went in the other day and found loads of good stuff at good prices - pity i didnt need anything. There may be a clearence center near you or even try comet clearence auctions.
