Question:
I've avoided this so far, but now I want to sell and the agents have said this will encourage buyers, as 'EVERYBODY want's it'. Well I don't/didn't!
Still if it helps to shift the place................
Does anyone know where I can buy the cheapest at the moment? Its just a cosmetic job, so I don't want to spend a lot of money or time on it.
Help please guys.

Direct Flooring do the cheapo stuff for 2.99 sq mtr. But if I saw that in a house I was viewing it would put me off. Maybe better spending a bit more for some of the higher quality stuff if it's to sell.
Another option might be to hire a steam cleaner and go over the carpets - can bring them up like new.

rather than get the cheap and nasty stuff spend a few quid on decent stuff and fit it yourself.

Surely not?? It really put us off and we've lived in a couple of properties with it and hated it. Our new house has it in the kitchen and we'll be replacing it as soon as we get around to it. It's really impractical for a kitchen and looks so cheap and tacky.
Are they suggesting you do this because a particular room has tatty or old flooring? if so there must be other tasteful alternatives...

Can't you put down some carpet in a neutral colour instead? Like beige or wheat etc? Or if your floorboards are in a good state how about sanding them down and varnish?

I have a really good quality dark blue carpet down. Its fairly new (less than a year), clean and people always say how nice it looks in the room.
But agents being agents.........say that everyone wants laminate flooring. This is Docklands and everyone wants to think they have the look. I dislike the laminate and wouldn't want it from choice. I think its gets dirty to quick and isn't practical. But what do I know?
Funny though..........the same agent said he has a buyer waiting and I have a suspicion that the guy he bought with him, wants the place.

We bought some cheap B&Q flooring for 7GBP/2SQ metre pack. It took us a day to do ONE row of 3 metres and another day to so the next row! It is damn near impossible to do and we're patient. The joints don't fit very well together and each one needs to be very carefully cut to allow the pieces to lock. Buy as expensive as you can afford if you are fitting it yourself and make the jointing system is of good quality or be prepared to get an expert in.
Good luck!

Personally I don't want lamibnate flooring as it looks cheap and tacky. And I will not have it in my house by choice.
And think about the noise. This one factor a lot of people neglect to think about when installing it how noisy it is and your neighbours will be able to hear you moving around and it will get on there nerves. I assume you don't live a flat then a really big no-no.
Why not try and get a off cut for the room. One thing is though that most new owners will rip out carpets and re-decorate with in weeks of moving in.
As long as the rest of the property is fine I personally would not bother just get the carpets cleaned.

Then there is absolutely no reason why you should replace it.
Hire a steam cleaner if you need to (pets etc) and don't listen to the estate agent! Especially if he has someone interested!!

Try homebase on their 10% off weekend they sell good quality at a reasonable price.
I think this weekend might be one and if you have ordered too much you can return the remaining boxes. Remember to get the "Click" as it is easier to fit.
You get springing with the glued unless you have the proper tools.
The underlay is the big rip off Screwfix.co.uk. sell 25mtrs for £17.99 take this as a guide.

Laminate only looks cheap and tacky if you get the cheap stuff. I went for the best i could afford and it looks really good.
Not sure what kind of house you live in but it's not noisy at all. Laying it is because you're hammering away at it but walking on it isn't noisy at all.

Of course it is not noisy that is why a lot of modern flat have it in the conventants that you can't have laminate flooring.
Also I have it from someone who had new people move in to the house next door they put in the stuff and it drove them mad with the noise.
And as I said personally I would not have it as I find what ever price range it looks cheap and tacky. You do what you want in your house and I will do what I want in my house.
To me it is parkay or nothing. Laminate flooring is rather like garden decking everyone will get it and in a year or two it will not be in fashion any more.
Ummmmmmm what difference does it matter what type of house I live in
Never mind each to there own the world would be boring if we all liked the same.

You're right Calley....laminate is noisy !
We splashed out and bought the good stuff when we had our extension done.
We spent a fortune as we had a large area to cover. Anything and everything echoes around through the kitchen into the lounge.
Even the dog walking around would make a loud noise with her claws/nails.
We ripped out the cheap laminate in the kitchen and bought something similar to Amtico. We've had the hall / kitchen and downstairs toilet in these vinyl tiles...much quieter and only cost £8 sq/m.
If I had the money I'd do the lounge too !

The people next to me did all their floors ,I wish they would go back to carpet the noise is awful and the place is echoey too so all noise is greater
But my house is quite new (7yrs) so is built from paper
I expect older buildings don't get the same problem

Ummm I never said it was in my house that I could hear my neighbours.
But I live in semi built in the late 70's with stair to stairs. And rarely hear my neighbours unless they run up the stairs like an elephant.

We put down expensive laminate flooring in our home office nearly two years ago. With two typists chairs on it, it's gone dull where they roll over the floor. I wouldn't recommend it. I think it has gone out of fashion as well which is probably why a lot of shops are discounting it. Also, the dog drives us mad clicking round on it so, yes, it is noisy! I'm very surprised at an estate agent recommending it.

I'd mention the fact that because it all links in together, if it chips at an edge you are stuck with having to pull loads of it up to get to the piece that is damaged and it never seems to go back down properly.
I hated mine (in the kitchen) and last weekend spent a pleasant 6 hours laying vinyl floor tiles over the top of it. They look much better imo and if I get any damaged areas will be really easy to replace.
