Question:
I've just had some sad news from friends in the US and will be spending a lot of time on the phone to them.
What's the cheapest calling system for the US I can sign up to?
I am with NTL phone and internet at the moment.
Thanks for your good advice.

Hi
Don't know if this is any help but a friend has been telling me about a company called Skype who allow you to make free calls anywhere in the world. The only conditions are that you both have broadband and a microphone attached to the computer (or usb phone). You also need to download a program from their site. I have to say I haven't used it myself but he has friends in Germany and I don't think he has had any problems. They also have programs for dialling land line but there is a cost involved for the program.

You don't have to sign up to anyone, just use the CallChecker on this website:
Try some of these companies:
Ratebuster 1p/min - (08447202020)
Telesavers 1p/min - (08448615656)
Abroadtel 1p/min - (08447210001)
Telediscount 2p/min - (08444629494)
First dial any number above, then number to US and you will only be charged 1p or 2p per minute.

Have a look at 1899.com its free sign-up but for NTL rather than dialling a 1899 prefix, you dial a free number then go from there. There are an A1 quality service, and I use them all the time to call the States - its 3p connection then 0.5p per minute. Fantastic.
