Aerial quote

Question:
Hi
We want to get a digital aerial put on the roof and as we have not got a plug socket in the loft we need an amp with a power unit then we want them to run one to each of the three bedrooms so they can watch freeview
We have just been quoted £432.40
We did have someone else come out about two weeks ago and he quoted £310 but as we found out afterwards he leaves the loft in a bit of a mess we decided to try to find someone else
But as the two quotes are different we really dont know what is a good or bad price
Can anybody help please?

Hi loopylass
Can't help on price but just wanted to give a word of advice.
My Mum recently bought a new digital TV with built in freeview and, because she always got brilliant reception on all channels with her analogue TV, we didn't check with freeview. We bought her a new aerial for digital TV but for reception in areas where the signal is moderate (in hindsight we should have bought the best hi gain possible).
The aerial was fitted for her as I was scared to let my man up on her roof.
She then started to get problems which we thought was down to the TV at first but we now realise it is because of the signal. We checked with freeview and they told us Mom couldn't even get ITV1 even with an analogue signal.
We thought they were talking rubbish at first as she's never had any TV reception problems but have since found out she is on the edge of the transmitter region and it is lucky she picks up analogue yet alone digital signals.
I only mention this because if you are going to have at least a three-way splitter on the aerial I thought it might affect reception.
Not sure - my hubby is the techie - but just thought I'd say in case it's something you haven't thought of.

Are you in a really weak signal area for Freeview??
Have you got access to any loft space to put the aerial??
I have no power in my loft but the signal is pretty good so I put up 3 £20 Focus aerials and ran the cables to the rooms upstairs and one out of the loft down the wall and back in the old hole for the front room.
Saved on getting power up in the loft as I was not splitting the signals.
The aerial from a previous owner is outside and was useless due to its age.

We can get freeview on a normal aerial and its a clear picture we also put up an aerial on the back of the house so we can get freeview in our bedroom again its a clear picture but the children have only got indoor aerials for their tv's so we wanted to get it all done so they can get a good picture and then we can take the aerial down from the back of the house but i didnt know what price we are looking at as the two quotes are different
we have got loft space but i think we need a digital aerial put on the roof as we have just bought a new hd lcd tv
Thankyou both for your help and advice

We are supposed to be in a non freeview reception area (Milton Keynes). The nearest transmitter is 23 miles away at Sandy Heath. However hubby put a high gain aerial in the loft and moved it around until we picked up a reasonable picture and we can pick up most freeview channels without too many problems, we did have a booster, but since the 2nd one stopped working after a thunderstorm we have still managed to pick up a good signal and continue to watch freeview!

I recently had a man out to fix my aerial, he told me I could get a new digital one put up for £150 plus VAT (about £180 in all). You can find a good company in your area at which is the Confederation of Aerial Industries. They cover the whole country and guarantee the work of their members.
