I'm looking for a decent in car heater which can be plugged into the 12v cig lighter socket of my car. My car's heater can't decide if it wants to work in the morning so it would be handy to have a back-up to keep me warm and demist the windscreen when it's cold. Can anyone recommend a good one for a cheap price? Thanks

If you are expecting your car's battery to heat you and the car I'm afraid you will have a flat battery long before you even start to feel warm !
There is only one device that is any good for your needs - and I'm not sure if these are available in UK or even if they can be retro fitted. That is a petrol powered heater which heats the cooling water system in the car. A friend of mine in Germany had one fitted on his (Opel) Astra. He just set the timer in the car for when he planned to use the car; the petrol heater would start about 10 minutes before that, so when he arrived the car would start easily and the car's interior heater was 100% functional.

Forget one of those things you see in the Sunday magazines, they don't work!
One possiblity is one of these, but you need mains electricity to run it,o.k at home,but not when leaving work etc.

You need to flush out the debris from the heater matrix. Disconnect the hose which contains water that go into the dashboard of the car. Then give it a good blasting out with a water hose.
My car has this problem too, although I haven't sorted it as my water hose doesn't reach from the garden to the car. Its build up of limescale I was told by my mechanic.
